Important skin care practices: Water Intake
Hi everyone!
The weather is cooling and winter is rapidly approaching! As we are all very well aware, the winters can be unkind and brutal here with the cold temperatures and heavy wind chill. That can leave our skin feeling raw and dry! With that in mind, I want to discuss the importance of drinking water and your skin health!
First, our skin is about 65% water! Lacking water can shrink our skin cells which leads to dehydration and dullness. Dehydration in the skin can also lead to increased sensitivity and advanced aging. Dry skin makes it more difficult for our skin to retain water because our skin barrier becomes weaker. When trying to rehydrate the skin, it is important to have a moisturizer that will help keep the nutrients and hydration locked in our skin and repair the lipid barrier.
Drinking water increases circulation in the skin for more effective nutrient delivery and more even skin tone! It also keeps skin plump and soft leaving it less likely to have breakage and irritation. Increase in water helps to keep our cells thick and strong, which can minimize signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles. When our cells are healthy, they are better at keeping out toxins and keeping in nutrients. Water can also help reduce acne because water helps to flush toxins from our system. Water makes it easier for cells to turnover properly leading to better natural exfoliation!
Overall, water is nothing but beneficial to skin health. Schedule an appointment with us to see how you can continue to keep you skin healthy and protected this winter!
