Imagine two elite athletes in the same sport: athletics. One is a long-distance runner, and the other is a sprinter.

The long-distance runner has a very lean build. This is because his discipline requires intense endurance work. His muscles rely on slow-twitch (red) fibers, which are lower in volume but highly resistant. These fibers enable him to maintain a high, steady pace over long periods.

In contrast, the sprinter trains with explosive, anaerobic workouts. His sessions are short but extremely fast, building significant muscle mass that lets him achieve impressive speeds. However, his muscles consist mainly of fast-twitch (white) fibers, which tire quickly, limiting his speed to only a brief period.
