Too often, families who choose direct cremation are left without the rituals, community, or moments of reflection that help us process grief.

When Funeral Director Amanda King read "The Right Way of Death" by Eric Layer, it challenged her to think differently about how we guide families through this process - and how we can create meaningful opportunities for healing even when traditional services aren’t chosen.

That inspiration led to our first Gather Them Home event, where families could finally lay their loved ones’ cremated remains to rest with dignity and reverence. The response was overwhelming, and it reinforced just how deeply people need closure.

In our latest blog, Amanda shares the story behind Gather Them Home, the families it touched, and why events like this matter now more than ever.

For over 125 years, our funeral homes in Brookfield, Thiensville, Menomonee Falls and Hales Corners have assisted Milwaukee-area families and their loved ones with fitting funeral and memorial services.

Our Story

For over 125 years, Schramka Funeral Homes have been serving families across Milwaukee with exemplary service. With four convenient locations, we continue to listen with empathy to families in need and provide kind, caring guidance and support.

We’ve come to know the people in our communities because we’ve been a part of growing up and getting older with them for five generations. We’ve also been heartbroken by loss and uplifted by sharing in the stories of our families, friends and citizens. We’ve learned that everyone has a rich life and a story to tell.

At Schramka, we want to help you and your family honor the life of a loved one in the most appreciable way possible. To remember, to grieve, to show respect and, yes, to celebrate and heal as circumstances permit.

Schramka Funeral Homes provide fitting funeral, cremation and memorial services. We respect all faiths and traditions. We invite you to reach us to learn more.
