🌟LUNG CANCER AWARENESS MONTH 🌟

In Missouri, lung cancer continues to pose a serious health challenge, with more than 3,500 deaths annually attributed to it, largely linked to smoking. Missouri ranks among the states with the highest prevalence of lung cancer in the U.S., and southeastern Missouri is particularly affected, showing elevated rates of both cases and mortality.

The American Lung Association emphasizes that reducing smoking rates and increasing access to lung cancer screenings are essential steps in improving outcomes. With low-dose CT scans now available, early detection is possible, which can significantly improve survival chances. Unfortunately, Missouri still sees high rates of undiagnosed or untreated cases due to barriers like limited access to care and screenings, especially in rural areas.

Today, on National Diabetes Day, Pershing Health System is proud to highlight our commitment to improving diabetes care close to home — and introduce a new resource for our community!

We are excited to welcome Brenda Haley, RN, CDCES, as our Certified Diabetes Care & Education Specialist at PHS! 💙

Brenda will soon be leading our Comprehensive Diabetes Education Program, focused on supporting individuals diagnosed with diabetes. Pending insurance requirements, education will be offered in group or one-on-one sessions to help patients:
✅ Understand their diagnosis
✅ Build self-management skills
✅ Make lifestyle changes that support long-term health

With more than 30 years of nursing experience — including over 20 years dedicated to diabetes education — Brenda brings expertise, passion, and a deep commitment to helping patients live healthier lives.
