This is a message to all friends of Lakeside School of Massage Therapy. It has been a very long time since I have posted anything on this site and I take this opportunity to suggest to our Lakeside graduates whether they would welcome a private group within Facebook. Perhaps we could even repurpose this site for graduates. Please respond to this posting. It would be great to hear from you. I honor what you do and I honor you! Carole Ostendorf

Massage Therapy at Herzing.
The first class of massage therapy students will graduate September 7th. We are excited for them and anticipate that they will reflect Herzing as well as Lakeside grads reflected on Lakeside in the past.

To get a feel for where the students are just eight weeks from completing their program, I asked Shanta McFarland, the full time Clinic Manager and student supervisor, her assessment of the students. Here is what she had to say.
"At Lakeside School of Massage Therapy students would have completed the program at this point; however, at Herzing University the students will continue to expand their knowledge by working with me, as their Clinic Manager. This opportunity allows the students consistency of information and continued support throughout their clinic education and experience. Students review each healthcare form with the clinic supervisor and will identify areas of concern based upon medication, previous injury, medical condition/pathology, modifications and contraindications. In the 4th and final term, students will become more efficient with intake (pre massage interview) and out take (post massage interview) which is an informative conversation between student practitioner and client.

The massage students are growing in their knowledge of therapeutic strategies by listening to the client and observing postural behaviors. Our students' growing knowledge of S.O.A.P. charting and understanding the importance of documentation is phenomenal! Students apply informed consent with each client by explaining the treatment plan, conducting postural assessments and integrating modalities. Our first class of massage therapy students are now in their 3rd term with 90 hours completed in the student clinic. The students are executing professionalism and educating clients with excellent self-care recommendations, future treatment and frequency of massage treatments.

In addition, students at Herzing University become acquainted with the day to day operations of maintaining a business. Students launder linens for table massage and towels for Hydrotherapy, do light filing and HIPPA compliance. We have a beautiful facility complete with ten treatment rooms, which includes a couples massage room. The Lakeside Massage Therapy Clinic of Herzing University offers not just 50 minute massages but 90 minute massages that provides the student with more time to work therapeutically. Our students begin with three clients in the first four weeks of clinic and then advance to four clients which promotes proper body mechanics and builds stamina."

Whew! Guess she is passionate about what she does.

We will keep you posted on our progress.
