👁️ What Is Dry Eye Disease?

Dry eye disease occurs when your eyes don’t receive enough lubrication from tears to stay moist and comfortable. This can happen when your eyes don’t produce enough tears or when the tears produced are low quality.

Your tears are made up of 3 important layers that work together to keep your eyes healthy:

💧 The oily layer helps prevent tears from evaporating too quickly
💧 The watery layer delivers nutrients to the eyes
💧 The mucus layer keeps tears evenly spread across the eye’s surface

When one or more of these layers isn’t functioning properly, dry eye disease can develop.
