This past weekend, seven SCAPP members proudly represented SDSU at the APhA Annual Conference in Nashville, TN! Throughout the weekend, they engaged in educational sessions, participated in policy discussions, networked with students from across the country (including befriending 10 NDSU students!), and connected with SDSU faculty and alumni over meals. Between exploring downtown Nashville and gaining valuable professional experiences, they also brought home three awards for our chapter —First Runner-Up in our division for the Chapter Achievement Report, along with regional recognition for Operation Heart and OTC Medication Safety.

Thank you APhA-ASP for this amazing opportunity, and we can’t wait to attend again next year in LA!

This week, 22 students traveled to Pierre, South Dakota, for SCAPP’s annual Legislative Days!

On Tuesday night, students had the opportunity to meet with current and former SDPhA leadership over dinner. The next day, they performed health screenings -including blood pressure, blood glucose, and blood cholesterol- for legislators and observed House and Senate committee hearings at the Capitol.

We are incredibly grateful to our preceptors, SDPhA, and the Board of Pharmacy for their support in making this valuable experience possible!

We had a great turnout at the SCCP monthly journal club! Presenters today were P3 students Riley, Colton, and Aron looking at an article comparing efficacy and tolerability of oral antipsychotics used in the acute treatment of schizophrenia. Students were able to learn a lot of information over the topic and obtain great faculty feedback. Big thanks to these gentlemen and hope to see everyone next month!

This past weekend, several students from our chapter attended a virtual watch party for APhA-ASP’s Midyear Regional Meeting (MRM)! At this event SCAPP was awarded the Regional APhA-ASP Award for Operation Heart and the Regional APhA-ASP Award for OTC Medication Safety based on our vents and screenings during Heart Month, patient screenings at Pine Ridge, and education at the Farmers Market last year!

Congratulations to everyone for their hard work and participation in these events, and special thanks to Meghan and Bria who spearheaded these!

This past week, we celebrated SCAPP Week! Each day featured a different event to boost member involvement and bonding while showcasing everything SCAPP has to offer. From pie-ing Dr. Reineke in the face on Monday to scavenging through Avera on Wednesday to our first Chapter Meeting on Thursday (with 101 students attending!), and finishing with donuts for professional students on Friday, it was a fun-filled week all around! It was a fantastic start to the semester, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the year has in store!

This past weekend the SCAPP Exec Board gathered in Sioux Falls to plan and set goals for the upcoming school year! They discussed events they hoped to bring back from last year and new events they wanted to put on for our members and community. Along with the planning sessions, the Exec members also had a chance to bond while exploring the mall, enjoying a group dinner at Roam, hitting balls at Great Shots, and breakfast at Queen City Bakery!
