🌿 Comfrey: The Herbal Controversy 🌿

I’ve been seeing comfrey pop up in teas, tinctures, and online “miracle remedies,” and I want to address something important: COMFREY is NOT safe to ingest internally.

While comfrey is amazing topically—think bruises, sprains, cuts, and skin healing—its internal use carries serious risks. Comfrey contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs), which can cause liver damage, toxicity, and even long-term health issues if ingested.

⚠️ A note about deep wounds: Comfrey is excellent for superficial skin healing, but it should not be used on deep, open, or infected wounds. Its strong healing properties may trap infection under the skin, which can worsen healing instead of helping.

I DO NOT promote drinking comfrey tea or taking it internally, because your safety comes first. It’s one of those herbs where external use is powerful, but internal use is dangerous.

✅ Safe use:
• Comfrey salves on minor cuts, scrapes, bruises, sprains
• Poultices or compresses for surface injuries

❌ Unsafe use:
• Drinking comfrey tea
• Internal tinctures or capsules
• Deep wounds

Herbal medicine is beautiful, but knowledge and caution are key. Just because an herb is “natural” doesn’t mean it’s harmless internally—or in all topical situations.

💚 Use comfrey wisely, honor its healing power on the skin, and as always prioritize safety. Do your own research and take your health seriously. There are a lot of overnight popup TikTok herbalist these days and they all don’t know what they are doing!

🌿 Talk About It Tuesday:
The Truth About “Clean” 🌿

Let’s talk about it…
Because this one gets under my skin.

Some of the loudest brands shouting “clean,” “non-toxic,” “natural,” and “farm fresh”… are still filled with ingredients most people can’t pronounce — and wouldn’t choose if they actually knew what they were.

That’s called greenwashing.

It’s when companies wrap their products in earthy colors, pretty plants, and buzzwords… but the ingredient label tells a completely different story.

👀 Here’s what to watch for:
• Long ingredient lists full of synthetics hiding behind “natural claims”
• Fragrance/parfum (a BIG umbrella term)
• “Plant-derived” ingredients that are still heavily processed
• Words like clean with no real regulation behind them

Just because it’s sold in a brown bottle…
Just because it has a leaf on the label…
Doesn’t mean it’s actually safe or non-toxic.

🌱 Real clean is:
• Simple
• Intentional
• Transparent
• Rooted in ingredients you recognize and trust

This is exactly why I do what I do.

No greenwashing.
No pretending.
Just real plants, real ingredients, and remedies made with purpose. 🌿

✨ Your wellness shouldn’t be built on clever marketing.

Drop a 🌿 if you’ve ever been fooled by a “clean” product before.
Let’s talk about it.

There’s something sacred about letting your tea steep in the sun while your hands are in the soil 🌿☀️

Today, as I plant in the garden, I’ve got a jar of spring sun tea slowly infusing beside me—soaking up warmth, light, and a little bit of that wild seasonal magic.

This blend is simple, intentional, and full of plant wisdom:

🌿 Nettle — deeply nourishing, rich in minerals, a true spring tonic for the body
🍃 Lemon Balm — uplifting to the spirit, calming to the nervous system
🌼 Chamomile — gentle, soothing, and supportive for stress + digestion
🌹 Rose — heart-opening, softening, and beautifully balancing
🌱 Spearmint — refreshing, cooling, and supportive for digestion
🌺 Hibiscus — vibrant, tangy, and full of antioxidant support

It’s more than tea… it’s a ritual.
A moment to slow down, connect, and let nature do what it does best.

Steeping in the sun.
Growing in the garden.
Rooting into the season 🌱

🌿 Spring Equinox • A Return to Light & Balance 🌿

Today we welcome the energy of renewal, growth, and gentle awakening. The Spring Equinox is a moment of perfect balance—day and night standing equal—reminding us that harmony is always within reach.

This is the season of soft beginnings. The earth stretches, roots deepen, and tender green life pushes through the soil… just like we are meant to.

If you’ve been feeling stuck, heavy, or in need of a reset—this is your invitation.

✨ Open the windows
✨ Cleanse your space
✨ Nourish your body with living plants
✨ Set intentions rooted in growth, not perfection

Let this be the season you come back to yourself.

🌸 Spring Awakening Tea Ritual 🌸
A gentle, heart-opening blend to support cleansing, circulation, and new energy.

You’ll need:
• Nettle leaf (deep nourishment + mineral rich)
• Cleavers (lymphatic support + gentle detox)
• Lemon balm (uplifting + calming to the nervous system)
• Peppermint (refreshing + digestive support)
• A squeeze of fresh lemon
• Optional: raw honey for sweetness

Directions:
Steep 1–2 tsp of your herbal blend in hot water for 10–15 minutes. Strain, add lemon + honey if desired, and sip slowly.

As you drink, set an intention:
🌱 “I welcome growth, balance, and new beginnings.”

This is your season to bloom—wildly, imperfectly, and in your own time.

With love from the earth to you,
✨ Mystical Wild Roots ✨

🍀 Eat Your GREENS… The Wild Way 🍀

While everyone’s out searching for luck today…
I’m over here thinking about something even better:

Your greens. 🌿

Not the sad, wilted kind in the back of your fridge…
I’m talking about living, vibrant, mineral-rich greens — many of them growing right under your feet.

🌿 Why greens matter (more than ever):
Greens help:
• Cleanse and support the liver
• Build the blood (hello iron + chlorophyll)
• Support digestion + gut health
• Nourish skin, hair, and energy levels
• Bring the body back into balance after winter

✨ Think of them as your body’s spring reset

🍃 Everyday nourishing greens:
• Kale
• Spinach
• Arugula
• Collards
• Mustard greens
• Swiss chard

🌼 Wild & medicinal “w**ds” (the real gold):
These are often more nutrient-dense than store-bought greens 👇

• Dandelion greens – liver loving, bitter tonic
• Chickw**d – cooling, soothing, mineral-rich
• Plantain leaf – draws, soothes, supports skin + gut
• Lamb’s quarters – wild spinach, high in vitamins
• Nettle – iron-rich powerhouse (amazing for energy)
• Wood sorrel (Oxalis) – vitamin C boost, refreshing + lemony

🍀 Ways to get your greens in:
• Toss wild greens into salads
• Blend into smoothies
• Stir into soups or broths
• Lightly sauté with garlic + olive oil
• Brew into nourishing herbal infusions

⚠️ Gentle reminder:
When working with wild plants:
• Always properly identify
• Harvest from clean, unsprayed areas
• Start slow and listen to your body

🌿 This season isn’t just about luck…
It’s about reconnection

To the earth
To your body
To the plants that have always taken care of us

✨ Wild. Nourishing. Intentional.

Tuesday Truth!

🍀 St. Patrick’s Day Truth:
That’s Not Clover… 🍀

Today is full of “lucky clovers”… but here’s a little herbal secret:

Most of what people are picking and calling clover is actually wood sorrel 🌱

That tiny plant with the heart-shaped leaves growing wild in your yard?
That’s not a shamrock… it’s wood sorrel (Oxalis).

✨ And honestly… it might be even more magical.

🌿 How to tell the difference:
• Wood sorrel has heart-shaped leaves
• It often has delicate yellow (sometimes pink) flowers
• It folds up at night or when touched
• It has a bright, lemony taste

☘️ True clover has:
• More rounded leaves
• A thicker growth pattern
• No tart/lemon flavor

🌼 Why herbalists love wood sorrel:
This little “w**d” is:
• Cooling to the body
• Rich in vitamin C
• Traditionally used to quench thirst and support digestion
• A fresh, wild addition to salads, teas, and summer drinks

🌿 It’s one of those plants that reminds us…
The medicine people walk past every day is often the most abundant.

⚠️ Just a note:
Wood sorrel contains oxalic acid, so enjoy it in moderation—especially if you have kidney issues.

🍃 So today, while everyone’s chasing luck…
You might just be standing in a patch of wild nourishment.

✨ Wild. Simple. Intentional.

🌿 Think About It Thursday

Think about it: Traditional remedies lasted for generations for a reason.

Long before pharmacies…
Before quick fixes…
Before wellness trends…

People turned to plants, food, and simple daily practices to care for their bodies.

Garlic for immunity.
Ginger for digestion.
Chamomile for rest.
Bitters before meals.
Herbal teas for seasonal support.

These weren’t “trendy remedies.”
They were passed down through observation, experience, and generations of real use.

Grandmothers knew what helped a cough.
Farmers knew what soothed sore muscles.
Herbalists knew which plants supported the liver, the lungs, and the nervous system.

And the remedies that didn’t work?
They didn’t survive the test of time.

The ones that did stuck around for centuries.

That doesn’t mean tradition replaces modern medicine.
But it reminds us that simple, time-tested practices still hold value.

Sometimes the most powerful support isn’t complicated.

🌿 A warm cup of herbal tea
🌿 A nourishing broth
🌿 Fresh herbs from the garden
🌿 A calming evening ritual

The wisdom of the past often knew something the modern world forgot…

Healing doesn’t always have to be new.
Sometimes it just has to be remembered.

Sit with that today.

🌿 Weeds Wednesday: The Hidden Power of Carolina Geranium 🌿

Meet one of the most overlooked little healers growing right under our feet…
Carolina Geranium — also known as wild geranium or crane’s bill.

Most people pull this plant thinking it’s just another yard w**d, but herbalists know it as a powerful astringent and wound healer that has been used traditionally for generations.

This humble plant is rich in tannins and flavonoids, which give it its incredible ability to tighten tissues, stop minor bleeding, and support skin healing.

🌿 What Carolina Geranium is good for:

• Helping stop minor bleeding from small cuts or scrapes
• Supporting skin healing and irritation
• Soothing insect bites and rashes
• Helping with bleeding gums and mouth irritation
• Supporting the gut during occasional diarrhea or digestive irritation

One of the simplest ways to use it is the old-school herbalist way:
👉 Crush the fresh leaves and apply them directly to a small cut or scrape.
The plant’s natural astringent properties help tighten tissue and slow bleeding.

You can also make a strong tea infusion to use as a wash for wounds or as a mouth rinse for irritated gums.

Herbalists also like to infuse the plant into oil to add to healing salves for cuts, scrapes, bug bites, and hardworking garden hands.

🌿 Fun plant fact:
The seed pods look like a tiny crane’s beak, which is why many geranium species are nicknamed “crane’s bill.”

So the next time you see this little plant growing in the yard or garden beds… pause before pulling it.

What looks like a w**d might actually be a small but mighty piece of the herbal medicine cabinet growing wild. 🌱
