MID-SUMMER HEAT & HIGH HUMIDITY 07/16/2025
Southern and central New Hampshire into southwestern Maine will see heat indices between 95 and 100 degrees. Although daily high temperatures and heat indices are NOT going to be as high as the late June heat spell, the duration and cumulative nature is still likely to bring some heat related health impacts.
Warm overnight low temperatures in the upper 60s/lower 70s will offer little relief leading to cumulative heat effects in buildings with no A/C.
Thunderstorms bring some relief late Thursday, but may be strong to severe for areas away from the coast.
To take a break from the heat please visit the air-conditioned Brookline Library located at 16 Main Street and enjoy a full selection of books, magazines, activities and other resources.
The Brookline library is open :
Monday 10:00 am to 8:00 pm
Tuesday & Wednesday 10:00 to 6:00 pm
Thursday 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Friday 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm
Saturday 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
Call 911 to report emergencies.
Here are some important safety tips:
Never leave children or pets alone in closed vehicles.
Drink plenty of water, even if you do not feel thirsty. Avoid drinks with caffeine. People who have epilepsy or heart, kidney, or liver disease; are on fluid-restricted diets; or have a problem with fluid retention should consult a doctor before increasing liquid intake.
Check on family, friends, and neighbors who do not have air conditioning and who spend much of their time alone.
Check on your animals frequently to ensure that they are not suffering from the heat.
If you must go outside:
Avoid strenuous work during the warmest part of the day. Use a buddy system when working in extreme heat and take frequent breaks.
Dress in loose-fitting, lightweight, and light-colored clothes that cover as much skin as possible. Avoid dark colors because they absorb the sun’s rays.
Protect your face and head by wearing sunblock and a wide-brimmed hat.
