Legendary musical satirist Tom Lehrer has died, aged 97.

Lehrer was a classical pianist and Harvard-trained mathematician who gained wide acclaim in the 1950s and 1960s with his darkly humorous songs, often filled with political and social commentary.

One of his most enduring songs is The Elements, a list of the chemical elements set to the tune of I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major-General from The Pirates of Penzance, Gilbert and Sullivan's comic opera. He also wrote music and lyrics for satirical shows and children's TV.

In 2020, Lehrer placed his songwriting copyrights in the public domain, allowing anyone to perform, record or interpret his work for free.

The dark “legs” are called haptics and allow the replacement lens to stay centered in your eyes at the center of your pupils.

The laser is also much gentler. Total energy delivered to the eye is nearly always under 10….but classic Phaco technology can lead to energy delivered to the eye well over 20 units

Abraham Pollen MD collected these historic materials. He started Boston Eye Physicians 90 years ago. This practice has a century of eye surgeons - now 5th generation - trained at the Eye and Ear.

A new exhibit celebrating our bicentennial is now open at Massachusetts General Hospital’s Paul S. Russell, MD Museum of Medical History and Innovation. The exhibit features medical instruments, models and books drawn from Mass Eye and Ear's Abraham Pollen Archives and Rare Book Room, some on view for the first time.

500 Million + eye operations later, the very first implant of a synthetic lens (plastic) in a human eye occurred in UK , 75 years ago.

Now lenses can be fine tuned AFTER the cataract surgery to give perfect vision !

I was privileged to observe the entire manufacturing process of the company , spawned from that creative spark.
