Skillful Means Meditation, samatha, vipassana, mindfulness, relaxation, gladdening of the mind He draws from Wisdom and scientific traditions.

William Jackson has been practicing meditation since he was 15 years old when to his mothers dismay his sister came home with a shaved head and said she had been practicing vipassana. William thought, "Wow cool!"

To make a long story short William was fully ordained at a Buddhist monk in 2005 practicing meditation in many South Asian countries.William has been heavily influenced by the Pa Auk Sayadaw, Thich Naht Hanh traditions of Buddhist practice. In 2011, William disrobed to pursue a doctorate in Clinical Health Psychology and graduated in 2016. William is focused on developing a community of practitioners and teachers focused on authentic healthy balanced living. He hope that you will join him in creating this community!

Hello friends, as I’m sure many of you have heard, Asheville North Carolina, was hit hard during Hurricane Helene. Carrie Jackson Jackson, Lisa Hickey, Christy Potts Deuschle and I are pulling together to support our sister Ami (formerly Amy Samson). She is living outside of Asheville. Her and Zac’s property was hit really hard during the recent hurricane. They are working hard to clean up, but Mother Nature has dealt them a serious blow. At the core of mental fitness is our capacity for emotional resilience. This is our ability to go from an overwhelming, unsafe, or negative state of mind to a sense of safety, connection, and productivity. However, emotional resilience is not a static trait it is something we can start developing relatively quickly with a few simple exercises.

This practice begins with a mindfulness warm-up to arrive. It follows with finding a personal memory to elicit the experience of happiness and peacefulness in the heart and mind. It continues with finding personal experiences that elicit a felt experience of being capable and strong in the body, safe and protected and then a sense of acceptance. It follows with expanding that positive experience and sense of well-being experienced to all beings.

I am so excited to be offering The Growing Up Mindful Certification this spring.

Twenty years ago I was on fire (not literally) with practicing and wanting to share mindfulness with everyone, especially younger folks. I thought, "I'm going to teach kids mindfulness, and there will be world peace in five years!"

Of course, twenty-some years later, it hasn't quite worked out like that. I realized that the main student I could influence was myself. And, I have spent the last twenty years practicing, researching, writing, and teaching kids, teens, adults, and even my own children practices related to mindfulness, compassion, self-regulation and more.

These days I'm more excited than ever to be getting mindfulness out to kids around the world, especially in the wake of the pandemic!


What is The Growing Up Mindful Training?

And, I'm about to start the next cohort of my Online Growing Up Mindful Training for parents and professionals. Over ten weeks our small group of mindfulness professionals from around the world will be diving deep on developmentally appropriate, trauma-aware practices for kids and teens from classrooms to clinics and beyond.

*CE's are now available for qualified professionals.

Our Skillful Means meditation retreat is coming up May 13-15! 🤗

We are looking forward to quiet reflection and daily sits surrounded by the pristine woods in New Hampshire, mouth-watering delicious food prepared in their own farmhouse kitchen, yoga, and stimulating conversations at the dinner table.

Creating and carving out space of peace and quiet, to reconnect with ourselves, in our busy lives, is so important for both mental and physical health.
