SEWA-AIFW will be hosting flu shot clinics in conjunction with our regular free health clinics throughout October to get ready for flu season! Here's what you need to know:

- If you're uninsured or your insurance plan doesn't cover vaccinations, you may qualify for free or low-cost flu shots.
- If you have insurance, most plans cover flu shots as preventive care, often at no cost to you. Please bring your insurance card when you get vaccinated.

Flu shots are free for those who are uninsured, underinsured, or have insurance plans that don't cover vaccinations. For those with insurance coverage, bringing your insurance card will help facilitate the process.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), a time when communities across the nation come together to uplift survivors, raise awareness, and commit to ending domestic violence. For DVAM 2025, the theme “With Survivors, Always” highlights what it truly means to stand alongside survivors—not only in moments of crisis, but in the ongoing work of building safety, advocating for rights, and creating spaces of healing. This theme is both a love letter to survivors and a powerful call to action for all of us to show up, listen, and act with compassion and commitment.

Resources and support are available on www.sewa-aifw.org or by calling our 24x7 Crisis Line: 952-912-9100.

When communities come together to talk about mental health, we help break stigma, raise awareness, and connect people to lifesaving resources. Supportive neighborhoods, schools, businesses, and faith communities all play a vital role in creating safe spaces for individuals and families.

Here are a few ways you can take action:
Normalize conversations about mental health.
Share resources and encourage help-seeking.
Remind others that su***de is preventable—and support is available.
Learn the warning signs and protective factors.

If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text 988 to connect with the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline, or reach out to local mental health providers and crisis centers.

Another amazing Weekly Senior Social! This week was full of learning, celebration, and joy!

🙏 A huge thanks to the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office for their informative session on 911 calls and scam prevention. Our seniors truly appreciated the insights and are looking forward to a follow-up session next week to dive deeper into their questions and comments.

🎂 We celebrated the birthday of our incredible founder Raj Chaudhary with cake, fun activities, and a delicious meal sponsored by the Chaudhary Family — thank you, Raj!

💃 To mark the beginning of Navaratri, our seniors hit the floor with Garba and had an absolute blast! “I never thought I’d be dancing Garba at my age — it felt amazing to celebrate with everyone!” — Senior Participant

Join our team and walk with us!
Sat Sep 27th, from 11am to 2pm at Minnehaha Park.

Let’s show up for our community and make every step count.

September is recognized as National Fall Prevention Month, a time to highlight the dangers of falls—particularly for older adults—and to promote safety practices. Minnesota ranks second in the nation for fall-related deaths among adults 65 and older, with numbers climbing faster than the U.S. average. Concerned about falling? SEWA-AIFW offers fall prevention classes that are open to everyone in the community. For more information, please contact Rohini@SEWA-AIFW.org or Bharati@SEWA-AIFW.org to get started.
