Everywhere we go, we’re told to get more protein! But it’s not as easy as it looks for those of us with busy lifestyles. If you’re like me, you want to have a working list of staples to buy so you’re well stocked and ready to meal plan. This way, you get what you need without having to think about it all the time.

It’s on everyone’s minds these days: FIBER.  So many patients don’t get enough fiber! It makes sense considering how surprisingly difficult it can be to work these foods in your diet when you’re busy, stressed, and low on energy.

The typical recommendation is 25 to 35 grams per day and you can do that by simply adding some fiber-rich foods to every meal.  Here’s what I suggest.

With everyone’s minds on holiday dinners for these last few weeks of the year, we often forget about breakfast! Whether you’re serving just yourself or a big family this year, you can count on this delicious quiche to give you a great, nutrition-packed breakfast or even lunch!  It’s also great for any morning that you can slow down and enjoy. I got this recipe from NYT but you can modify it as you like. It has lots of protein, fiber, and a bit of fat to keep you satisfied.

Feeling low moods more often these days? Yeah, me too. I think this collective low mood can be anything — life struggles, the never ending news cycles, or even just the darkness of winter affecting our moods and mental health. It’s okay (and valid) to feel this way! However, we should take care of ourselves even when we’re not feeling our best. What do you like to do when you have a low mood?

A lot of patients worry about how they’re making “progress” and get frustrated when they don’t feel like they’re getting the exact results they want. But progress isn’t just a number on a scale or a lab chart. Here’s what I look for as well for a more holistic view of a patient’s progress.

Once you’re further down your nutrition care path, you might be feeling something a lot of other patients struggle with once they’ve started figuring out routines and what they need in their diet: frustration. A lot of patients worry about how they’re making “progress.” But progress isn’t just a number on a scale or a lab chart. As a nutritionist, I also look for other markers that show me how a patient is progressing beyond their lab work results.
