Heartshare Human Services of New York

Heartshare Human Services of New York We champion and empower the City’s most overlooked and underestimated by promoting health & well-being, creating stability, and unlocking futures.

Heartshare champions and empowers New York City’s most overlooked and underestimated by promoting health and well-being, creating stability, and unlocking futures. Heartshare exists to remove obstacles, build stability, and allow for greater self-belief, self-advocacy, and independence. We support two specific populations across all of New York City: children and adults with developmental disabili

ties; and children and families dealing with the trauma associated with family separation. Each population faces its own distinct set of challenges and obstacles — and we are set up accordingly to meet them with understanding, evidence-based solutions, and interconnected programming.

May is National Foster Care Month—a time to celebrate the resilience of youth in foster care and the power of supportive communities. Our story began over a century and a half ago with the establishment of our first home for young working boys in 1869, followed by our 66 Boreum home in 1906 that still serves as one of our headquarters today.

In 1997, the American Dream Program (ADP) was established, which uses research-based mentorship, educational advocacy, and trauma-informed support to improve outcomes for youth in care.

Today, Network 66, our foster care alumni network, leads the way in sharing crucial life skills for youth transitioning out of care — driven by leaders who have lived this journey themselves.

Head to heartshare.org for more on our foster care programs and stay tuned all month long for inspiring stories from our community.

Excited to share that Airbnb is giving back by providing 1,000 FIFA World Cup 2026™ tickets to local youth across New York and New Jersey, and Heartshare has been named one of their community partners! This incredible initiative means the next generation gets to experience one of the biggest sporting events in their own backyard.

Thank you, Airbnb, for investing in young people and helping ensure more youth feel seen, included, and inspired.

A very special thanks to Heartshare Champion and New York City Council Member Rita Joseph for recommending Heartshare for this initiative and championing our youth. Councilmember Joseph stated, “This initiative is about more than access to a game, it is about expanding horizons, inspiring dreams, and affirming for our young people, especially those in foster care, that they belong in every space the world has to offer.”

Network 66, Heartshare's recently launched foster care alumni network, was born to unite current and former St. Vincent's youth in foster care, providing vital resources, mentorship, and mutual support for their journey ahead.

Last month, Network 66 hosted its first annual summit to support foster care alumni as they navigate the unique challenges of buying a home. Over two incredible days, experts shared their knowledge in real estate, finance, financial therapy, and more to break down barriers and provide clarity at every step of the homeownership journey.

Thank you to our special guests and participants. Together, we’ve set the foundation for continued growth and lasting impact for foster care alumni.

Throughout April, the Heartshare community came together to celebrate Autism Awareness Month.

One key highlight remains our education team's annual Autism Awareness Parade, bringing together staff, families, friends, and even our therapy dog, Bronx, to march proudly alongside Heartshare students throughout the New York City boroughs.

Heartshare’s network of special education schools are dedicated to supporting PreK-12 students with autism and other developmental disabilities, meeting children where they are, and building unique instruction and therapy plans to help each student find success.

Together, we’re fostering understanding and inclusion not just in April, but every single day. 💙
