Heartshare Human Services of New York

Heartshare Human Services of New York We champion and empower the City’s most overlooked and underestimated by promoting health & well-being, creating stability, and unlocking futures.

Heartshare champions and empowers New York City’s most overlooked and underestimated by promoting health and well-being, creating stability, and unlocking futures. Heartshare exists to remove obstacles, build stability, and allow for greater self-belief, self-advocacy, and independence. We support two specific populations across all of New York City: children and adults with developmental disabilities; and children and families dealing with the trauma associated with family separation. Each population faces its own distinct set of challenges and obstacles — and we are set up accordingly to meet them with understanding, evidence-based solutions, and interconnected programming.

Shout-out to our talented youth from the Heartshare School, our K-12 school in Brooklyn for children with developmental disabilities, who continue to showcase their creativity and entrepreneurship through their student-run jewelry business, Ash & Co.

The mighty small business was on hand at the Mill River Club's Holiday party this month in Oyster Bay, NY, where members had the opportunity to purchase one-of-a-kind handmade goods, including bracelets, keychains, and more.

Thank you, Mill River, for hosting us and helping students with developmental disabilities explore new environments, participate in new experiences, acquire new skills, and become members of the larger community. 🎄✨

A heartfelt thank you to our lifelong Heartshare supporters, Jimmy Buckley, Christine Strehle, and the entire staff at Buckley's Restaurant and Catering, for hosting another unforgettable holiday party for students from one of Heartshare Education’s preschools supporting children ages 3 to 5 with special needs. Your continued kindness created truly joyful memories for the students of Kiwanis, including a very magical visit from Santa. We are so grateful for your commitment to Heartshare’s mission of championing and supporting the intellectual and developmental disabilities community and for making the season bright for every child. 🎅🎁

Thank you, Joseph Mure, for inviting Heartshare to your Annual Holiday Celebration at The Little North Pole in Rockaway and giving one of our youths the opportunity to switch on the lights to kick off this joyous season! We are inspired by your 30-year commitment not only to raise funds for Juvenile Diabetes Research but also to unite the community in the ultimate expression of holiday spirit.

Whether it’s a foster parent offering stability, a coach offering guidance, or a donor offering hope, belief is where transformation begins.

Because a child who knows they are believed in becomes a child who believes in their future.

Your contribution this Giving Tuesday helps youth in foster care, like Olivia, unlock their journey to their most authentic self. Plus, every donation today will be matched!

For people with developmental disabilities, independence isn’t a destination, but rather a series of courageous steps: a first job, a first home, a first moment of being truly seen and heard.

Too often, society places limits on what’s possible. But at Heartshare, we see ability and overcome barriers.

Your contribution this Giving Tuesday helps people with developmental disabilities like Terrell unlock dreams he never knew existed. Plus, every donation today will be matched!

At Heartshare, we don’t just see people for who they are—we see who they can become. No matter their past, ability, or circumstance, every person carries untapped potential. And through unwavering belief, we help unlock it.

But this transformation is only possible if you believe with us.

Tomorrow, we celebrate Giving Tuesday, the global day of giving. Donate to Heartshare and unlock the potential in every member of our shared community. 💙

Some caregivers change lives quietly through small acts of love. Others, like Linda Kocieniewski, build something that transforms an entire community.

Linda, mother of Grace, a longtime student at The Heartshare School, founded My Circle of Girls NYC—a recreation club for girls with autism and their families. What began as a way for Grace to connect beyond the classroom has grown into a network of friendship, inclusion, and support for families across New York. 💙

We’re proud to honor Linda as one of our Caring Champions this National Family Caregivers Month, celebrating the families whose compassion and leadership strengthen the Heartshare community every day.

This National Family Caregivers Month, we’re shining a light on Caring Champion Kiara Green, mom of Shymell from our Brooklyn PACT Day Program.

Kiara’s warmth and creativity lift the whole community—from organizing class photos to bringing everyone together for lunch and laughter. Her kindness reminds us that caregiving is as much about joy as it is about support.

We were proud to recognize Kiara and fellow caregivers at this spring’s Heartshare Gala for the love and leadership they bring to our programs every day. 💙

This National Family Caregivers Month, we honor the incredible caregivers who show up every day with love, strength, and dedication.

At Heartshare, we’re proud to celebrate Dr. Julia C. de la Garza, our first Caring Champion—sister of Ana, a longtime resident at the Cuite Home. Julia has spent more than four decades advocating not only for her sister but also for her housemates and their families, leading parent groups and strengthening the Heartshare community.

This spring, Julia and other caregivers were honored at the Heartshare Gala for their unwavering commitment and care. 💙
