Contel Lab

Contel Lab Our Lab at Brooklyn College is focused on the synthesis of transition-metal based compounds and thei

Our research program focuses on the synthesis and characterization of transition-metal complexes (mainly gold but also titanium, silver, copper, palladium and platinum) and their applications as: a) anticancer and antimicrobial agents and b) as catalysts in reactions of industrial interest (including but not limited to oxidations and C-C and C-Heteroatom bond formation). We are interested in understanding the mode of action of these complexes in order to rationalize their design for improved properties.

More than 170 undergraduate students from CUNY community and senior colleges funded by the CUNY Research Scholar Program and the CUNY Immersive Research Program presented posters and talks at the 2025 CRSP/CIRE Symposium hosted by La Guardia Community College on July 8th and 9th. We mentors are so proud of all these students. I am particularly proud of undergraduate student in my lab Marayke Mayrata who was one of the 4 students whose presentations were selected as “best of the best”. Research at the undergraduate level is key for all scientists! Chemistry Department, Brooklyn College Brooklyn College Cancer Center
