One headache. That’s all it took to change everything.
Sixteen-year-old David Sanchez was a healthy, driven junior at Burbank High School in San Antonio, TX — lifting 230 pounds, taking all AP classes, playing Varsity Mariachi, drumming for his band Seaglass, and dreaming big like so many teens do.
Then one recent Sunday afternoon, he said he felt “off.” A headache. A little dizzy.
Within an hour at the ER, doctors found the unthinkable — a brain tumor the size of a small lemon, pressing near his brain stem.
By the next day, David was in emergency brain surgery.
The tumor was mostly removed, but the fight was just beginning. David hasn’t been able to breathe on his own since.
During one attempt to remove the ventilator, both of his lungs collapsed. His oxygen dropped to 65. Doctors prepared for a lung bypass — and then, suddenly, without explanation, his oxygen jumped to 95.
Even doctors were stunned.
David has now spent more than three weeks in the ICU. He’s facing radiation, intense therapy, and a long road back — but his family believes that prayer already saved his life once.
His grandmother Cindy says this is a reminder to listen to our kids. Even “small” symptoms can mean something much bigger.
Cindy is asking for us all to come together for David.
“Pray for David’s lungs to strengthen. Pray for the trach to come out. Pray for healing, strength, and hope.”
If you’ve ever loved a teenager, pause — and lift David up.
