For National Nutrition Month, NYC Health + Hospitals in partnership with Sodexo today celebrated over 2.8 million plant-based meals served since the program began in March 2022. In 2025 alone, NYC Health + Hospitals served nearly 700,000 plant-based meals to its patients.
Scientific research has shown that plant-based eating patterns are linked to significantly lower risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and certain cancers. They can also be effective for weight management as well as treatment of hypertension and hyperlipidemia.
In addition to the considerable health benefits for patients, the transition to a plant-based menu led to a reduction in carbon emissions of 36% and a cost savings of 59 cents per meal. Patients who ate plant-based meals at NYC Health + Hospitals in 2025 reported a satisfaction rate of 98%.

Woodhull Town Hall Highlights 💙

Last week’s Town Hall brought our team together for an engaging and meaningful session, highlighting the exceptional work happening across our hospital.

We thank Martha Kato, pianist from Sing For Hope, followed by Kathy for opening the session, then by inspiring remarks from Ms. Sneed, who also recognized the contributions of Ms. Evans, Ms. Henderson, Ms. Davis, Ms. Codrington, and Ms. Cordova in connection with the Women’s Leadership Summit.

We proudly celebrated our MVP winner, Xenia Clarke (Bio-Med Engineering), and recognized the outstanding contributions of our Food & Nutrition Department as our Unsung Heroes. Appreciation was also extended by Mr. Miller to our Social Workers and Emergency Department teams for their dedication to care experience.

A special thank you to Cynthia Lynch for leading an insightful Midwifery showcase, and to all who participated in the Chat with Leadership, fostering open dialogue and collaboration. The session concluded with a singing from Richard Bishun, and closing remarks by Ms. Sneed.
