Medical Mysteries, Working Mom Edition

It's 7:23am and bus is coming for the 4 year old at 7:30. Usually it takes 5 minutes to get him dressed.
Said child has been up partying since 6am so you assume you are running ahead of schedule.
Instead, you go to your son's room to get his clothing and find that we are locked out with no one inside...
Skeleton key is nowhere to be found.
Tick tock, its 7:25!
Your workday flashes before your eyes.
Think quick!! ๐Ÿ˜‡

Happy Mother's Day to all the rockstar mothers out there! Water station, tissue station, jacket dumping station. Blessed, exhausted, overwhelmed and full of love. I am reminded almost daily by my wise patients that the days are long but the years are short. Sending special hugs to those yearning to be moms, those missing their moms and those moms who wish they could go back in time. ๐Ÿ’œ

Did you know? Hearing aids last around 4-5 years with proper maintenance. Warranties typically end by year 3. This gentleman has been my patient since 2021 and just got his 2nd set of hearing aids. Check out the new look for 2026! Keep looking because you don't see them! We had a great run with his first set but it was time for something new ๐Ÿ˜„ Aging gracefully and keeping his look sharp through his 80s. Thank you for trusting me with your ears ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

I've been informed of a new so here goes... Top 5 Movies for the Audiologist in Private Practice

1. WHEN THE #1 MODIFIABLE RISK FACTOR FOR DEMENTIA (HEARING LOSS) IS TOTALLY OVERLOOKED (especially when dementia runs in the family or there are already signs of dementia)
2. Fighting with insurance companies over unfair denials, or insurance companies trying to tell me how to run my practice
3. Earmold impressions on a surgical ear (ear that has been widened or changed in anatomy in some way)... you need to be careful and also expect the unexpected
3. Hearing Aid wax filter is clogged again and the wearer is struggling needlessly
4. New patient asks me when they get to see the doctor ๐Ÿคฃ (Yes I got my doctorate at 24 and was the youngest in the field for a while)
5. Running low on medical supplies and doing the math on how quickly the shipment will come! We use disposables only, no nonsense with hygiene

Bonus #6. If you park in the wrong spot on my block... that is if you're lucky enough to find the block on your first try! ๐Ÿ˜‡

The good news is I can handle a few horror movies if we have enough solid movies in the mix ๐Ÿคช

So thankful to God for another year of life and for my ears that allowed me to enjoy all the different birthday celebrations ๐Ÿพ I am also so thankful to everyone who reached out, and in general for everyone who "likes" my Facebook posts, no matter how basic it may seem! I notice each like/comment and appreciate it greatly since it helps my Google rankings when people search for a new audiologist ๐Ÿ˜‰ Thank you all so much for your continued support and I wish all of my fellow Tauruses Happy Happy Birthday ๐Ÿฅณ PS for those wondering, the napoleon cup was my favorite ๐Ÿ˜‹

Story time with old pic for illustration ๐Ÿ˜€

This morning one of my boys almost missed the bus. For a working mom this is especially yikes!

What happened? His brother was running early, so I called to him through the bathroom door to wake said brother. I assumed it would be taken care of and moved on to handle the other kids' various morning needs. 5 minutes before the bus arrived, my daughter points out to me that said brother is still sleeping! I turned to the boy who I had given instructions to and he says "What? I didn't hear you say that!"

This is a very basic example of how communication breakdowns can cause real problems in a family and especially between couples.

Everyone loves to joke about selective hearing... but sometimes one partner genuinely doesn't hear while the other partner is legitimately frustrated at drops in communication like these that can have real consequences.

The moral of the story is: hearing loss is a whole family problem, not just your own business to ignore. Take care of your ears and the harmony in the home ๐Ÿก
