We are now accepting applications for a two-year, fully funded Orthopaedic Surgery Research Fellowship. This is an invaluable opportunity for medical students and graduates aspiring to match into orthopaedic surgery residency.

Formerly a research resident position, this non-categorical 2-year research fellowship allows orthopaedic surgery candidates to integrate with an orthopaedic clinical team while developing research and leadership skills. Fellows work closely with our residency program leadership and are frequently recruited into our residency program or sponsored into other programs of their choosing.

- 🔬Position:  Two-Year Clinical Research Fellowship
- 👔Principal Investigators: Jack Choueka, M.D. (Chairman; Chief, Hand/Upper Extremity Division), Afshin Razi, M.D. (Residency Program Director; Vice-Chairman, Academics and Research; Chief, Spine), and Amr Abdelgawad, M.D. (Vice-Chairman, Orthopedic Clinical Programs; Chief, Pediatrics).

We also got to connect with alumni, colleagues, and friends throughout the conference and at our annual alumni dinner. Yesterday we had an intern bootcamp session followed by our first inaugural Summer Fridays 🍻happy hour🍹! Our interns & rotator medical students learned how to put on short arm and short leg casts, and our PD Dr. Razi made a special guest appearance just in time for our chiefs, Dr. Conway and Dr. Sheth to demonstrate how to put on a coaptation splint! We then headed over to Strong Rope Brewery for Summer Fridays Happy Hour for some drinks and views. Shoutout to our chiefs for organizing such a fun day, and here’s to many more casts and ☀️Summer Fridays🍹!

🚨 We are hiring! 🚨

The Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York is inviting 4th-year U.S. medical students interested in a career in orthopaedic surgery to apply to a two-year funded position as a research fellow starting July 1, 2025 to May 30, 2027.

The research fellow will work in close conjunction with Chairman, Dr. Jack Choueka, Vice-Chairman and Residency Program Director, Dr. Afshin Razi, and other Orthopaedic faculty at Maimonides Medical Center. 

The fellow will be responsible for managing multiple IRB projects encompassing clinical, biomechanical, and imaging-based studies. A basic understanding of statistical analysis is expected, and the department will provide the necessary training for the position.

The fellow will have the opportunity to attend daily educational conferences with the orthopaedic surgery residents, cadaver labs, and continue to expand their clinical acumen by shadowing and observing attendings and residents within the clinical setting. 

Our previous research fellows have successfully matched into an orthopaedic surgery residency program.
