🚨 This is an emergency notification from the Sunset Park Public Health Response Network (SPPHRN).

The National Weather Service issued a citywide Coastal Storm watch beginning at 8 AM on 10/12 to 6 PM on 10/13. Expect sustained winds / gusts and high waves, area dependent.

🌊 This storm surge warning means there is a danger of inundation of one to two feet above ground level in the indicated locations. Minor flooding of shore roads and/or adjacent properties is possible. For a depiction of areas at risk, please see the National Weather Service Storm Surge Watch/Warning Graphic, available at https://www.weather.gov/okx/.

During this time, we recommend that you:
🫂 Check on vulnerable friends, family members and neighbors.
🪪 Take all necessary actions to protect life and property from rising water and the potential for other dangerous conditions.

🎒 Prepare an emergency kit consisting of dry food, personal items, medication, and flashlights.

Last weekend, we welcomed 1,500+ community members to our 10th annual Health Empowerment Celebration! ☀️🥳

Alongside over 50 partners and sponsors, we provided a wide variety of services and activities. Some highlights:
💃🏽 5 amazing cultural performances
🩺 free flu shots by Walgreens and 5 types of screenings, including for cancers
🚑 our Crystal Sponsor NYU Langone Health's vascular screenings and ambulance for kids to explore
🫱🏽‍🫲🏾 40+ health/social service tables
🥬 450 bags of groceries distributed
🗣️ inspiring presentations by Alexa Avilés, Assemblymember Marcela Mitaynes, Congressman Dan Goldman, Governor Kathy Hochul, and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand
