Second District Dental Society of New York

Second District Dental Society of New York SDDS represents dentists from Kings and Richmond Counties and is a component of the American Dental Association and the New York State Dental Association.

The Second District Dental Society (SDDS) represents the dentists from Kings County (Brooklyn) and Richmond County (Staten Island). We have approximately 1,500 members representing close to 70% of all active dentists in these areas. The Society was formed in 1868 and has been an active and committed representative for the dentists of our area since that time. We are the local component of the New

York State Dental Association (NYSDA) and the American Dental Association (ADA). Our Society is governed by a 25-member Board of Trustees. The Society also has representation to NYSDA (governors) and the ADA (delegates). The Second District Dental Society has one branch society, the Richmond County Dental Society. For the benefit of its membership, the Society also sponsors the programming of a number of established local study groups in Brooklyn and Staten Island. The Richmond County Dental Society has nearly 300 dentists living and working in the borough of Staten Island. This branch society of the SDDS provides opportunities for its members to meet monthly, conducts community outreach programs and education, and is involved with local issues affecting Staten Island's dental professionals.

What does it look like to restore a full mouth while saving as much tooth structure as possible? 🦷

Join us for Minimally Invasive Treatment for Full Mouth Rehabilitation with Dr. Farhad Vahidi, prosthodontist and Associate Professor at NYU College of Dentistry.

Dr. Vahidi will walk through real cases, with 5 to 10 years of follow-up, covering the methods, materials, and technology that make conservative full mouth rehab possible. Cases will include worn-down dentition, enamel hypoplasia, bulimic patients, and more.

This one is a great opportunity, whether you’re looking to refine your restorative approach or just want to see long-term success documented in real time.

This is why we do what we do. 🦷

Dr. Quartey said it best, one of the most rewarding parts of being a dentist isn’t just the clinical work. It’s the patient who used to dread every appointment and now can’t wait to come back.

Those moments don’t happen by accident. They happen because you chose a career built on trust, care, and showing up for people.

That’s the kind of dentist SDDS is proud to support.

🫱🏼‍🫲🏻 Organized dentistry is more about the people than it is about the profession.

Dr. Emma Guzmán has been a member of the Second District Dental Society since completing her residency in 2018, and she wanted to share why it's meant so much to her journey.

From building a network of colleagues she can actually call on, to accessing real benefits like legal services, wellness resources, and the SDDS loan repayment grant, membership goes further than most new dentists realize.

If you've been wondering whether organized dentistry is worth it, just listen to her story.

COMING UP – Complications and Considerations Facing Implant Dentistry Today

After many years of implant use in dentistry, there are a number of issues that have arisen. How do we develop occlusion on various implant restorations? Do we develop different occlusal schemes for single units vs. splinted restorations? How do we deal with restoring unknown implants designed by companies that have gone out of business? How do we incorporate digital dentistry into the restorative phase of implantology?

This lecture will discuss similarities and differences of occlusion on teeth and on single unit implants, how occlusion helps determine restorative material choice, and how to manage complex implant restorative cases and complications that arise.
