Fu Ling is more than just a single herb. In Chinese medicine, each part of this mushroom, which grows around the roots of pine trees, has a unique function. The main body strengthens the Spleen, drains damp, and calms the Shen. Fu Pi, the outer peel, is the most diuretic and is used for edema in formulas like Wu Pi Tang. Chi Fu Ling, the red inner layer, targets dampness and floating edema. Fu Shen is used to calm the spirit and support emotional balance.

Long Yan Rou, or longan fruit, is a go-to herb in Chinese medicine for stress, grief, PTSD, and trauma. The Spleen produces blood through digestion, and the Heart relies on this blood to anchor the Shen, or spirit. When trauma agitates the Shen, it can lead to restlessness, anxiety, insomnia, and emotional instability. Long Yan Rou supports digestion, builds blood, and calms the Shen, making it a gentle and nourishing herb for emotional recovery.

Cang Zhu is a warm, aromatic herb that clears dampness, strengthens the Spleen, and helps with digestive sluggishness, bloating, and heavy limbs. It is often used for skin conditions like eczema, keratosis pilaris, and fungal infections rooted in damp-heat. Unlike Bai Zhu, which focuses on tonifying the Spleen, Cang Zhu is best at drying damp and expelling pathogens.

Zi Su Ye, or perilla leaf, is one of my favorite herbs. Known in Japanese cuisine as shiso, it is more than just a fragrant garnish. Traditionally used to treat fish-related food poisoning, Zi Su Ye was the original inspiration for the plastic sushi grass you see today. It appears in Ban Xia Hou Po Tang, a formula used for plum pit qi, or the feeling of something stuck in the throat often caused by emotional stress.

Book a consultation with me to learn how Zi Su Ye can support digestion, immunity, and emotional balance.

Pei Lan, also known as Xing Tou Cao, or "herb that awakens the head," is a top choice in Chinese medicine for clearing dampness that causes brain fog. It is used when the head feels heavy and dull, like it is wrapped in a wet towel. This is a classic sign of internal damp obstruction. Pei Lan supports mental clarity and digestion and is especially helpful in Spleen-pattern cases of perioral dermatitis.

Book a consultation if you're interested in how herbs like Pei Lan can help with brain fog and digestion.

Ye Ju Hua, or wild chrysanthemum, is used in Chinese medicine to clear heat and resolve toxicity, especially when symptoms are intense or inflamed. Stronger than regular Ju Hua, it targets toxic heat at the qi level and is especially useful for papular vesicles, pustules, and damp heat patterns like rosacea or perioral dermatitis.

Book a consultation with me to learn how herbs like Ye Ju Hua can support skin, eyes, and overall heat relief from the inside out.

If slouching were a competitive sport, most of us would have medals by now. That habitual hunch isn’t just about bad ergonomics, it is a built-in defense move to guard the chest and protect the heart. Not surprisingly, UB15 is the back shu point of the Heart, and it lands right where all the tension from rounding our back collects. In Chinese medicine, the Heart governs clarity, awareness, and emotional steadiness. When stress builds, we shut down and fold inward. UB15 helps break that pattern. It supports the Heart, regulates the nervous system, and makes it easier to stay upright in both body and spirit.
