My name is Nikita Banks, LCSW and I am running for vice-president as NYS-NASW Vice President and I need your VOTE.
All eyes are on NYS, the epicenter of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The role of social workers is paramount as we report to the frontlines to help the public and fellow health care workers cope with the trauma that is our new normal. New Yorkers will have to rebuild the economy all the while prioritizing both
health and safety.
Mental health will play a significant part.
We saw understandable national support for nurses and doctors, some being offered unprecedented incentives and top pay to work in our state.
We also answered the call yet we're asked to volunteer. Constantly fighting for acknowledgment as licensed professionals who deserve hazard pay.
Social workers are essential.
Yet we work without significant wage increases or comparable pay like our counterparts. We are notoriously great at advocating for our clients but not for ourselves. As your vice-president & Chair of Diversity, I am committed to building widespread community awareness about what we do. Help craft cohesive messaging aimed to increase clarity, public awareness and why it's in the nations best interest that we succeed and thrive. While both increasing culturally diverse client access, while advocating for equitable pay. Let me champion that cause.
