In NYC, an estimated 291,000 children age 3 to 13 had experienced one to three adverse childhood experiences. These early life stressors can increase the risk for chronic health conditions, like heart disease, diabetes, and mental health issues. Support from caregivers and schools can play a critical role in helping children build resilience and overcome the negative effects of adverse childhood experiences.

Sign up at jewishboard.org/signup for updates on how we are working to prevent adverse childhood experiences and promote resilience in children.

Among NYC adults with a diagnosed mental illness, 34% have had an unmet need for mental health treatment in the past year, highlighting a gap in mental healthcare accessibility. This unmet need could be due to financial barriers, long wait times, or stigma associated with seeking treatment.

The consequences of untreated mental illness can be profound, potentially leading to worsening symptoms and reduced quality of life. To address this issue, it is crucial to increase availability of care and reduce costs.
