Favorite book #4: Tap The Magic Tree by Christie Matheson. I love to use this interactive book for fall, but really, it's great anytime of year! I use it to target the following:
- Vocabulary related to the season and nature
- Following directions
- Turn-taking
- Predicting
- A group activity. Read the book and then make a tree together.

When COVID forced me to close my office, I struggled with the transition to teletherapy. But after a few months, I started to enjoy it and my clients made progress. I also liked the convenience, ease of scheduling, and increased parent involvement. I know remote therapy isn't appropriate for all children, but for many kids, this delivery model works quite well, which is why I will continue to offer it, even as I return to in-person sessions. Favorite books #2 & #3 : Maisy's Fire Engine by Lucy Cousins & Fireman Small by Wong Herbert Lee.. Two for one in this post! I find Maisy is best for toddlers and early preschoolers, while Fireman Small is more appropriate for older preschoolers and early elementary kids. Both are great for describing actions and answering wh-questions, but best of all, the clear pictures in each book are fantastic for addressing sequencing and expanding play schemas. After reading the books, grab a few toys and act of the scenes!

Favorite book #1 and meet Dewey, the wanna be therapy dog!

I've had a copy of this book ever since I finished graduate school and use it for both evaluations and therapy. Elmo is a crowd favorite and the lift-the-flaps in this fun picture book are super engaging.

Here's how I use it:
Ages: Toddlers and early preschoolers.

Language goals targeted:
* identifying and labeling objects, actions; descriptive and spatial concepts
* turn-taking ("my turn" "your turn")
* answering yes/no and wh-questions
* predicting ("what do you think is under there?")
