It is officially EARTH ELEMENT Season!!

Late summer is the pause between the fire element's 🔥heat and the metal element's 🌬️damp chill, a time to center, ground, and tune in to how you digest life. At the heart of this season are the spleen and stomach organs expressing their energetic nature by way of maladies that affect digestion and mental clarity. If you find yourself with mental fatigue or stomach weakness at the change of season, it may signal your earth element organs need some attention. The earth element governs the in-between, making this a perfect moment to review the digestive nature of your gut and your mind, giving both a mini-reset so you can move forward with ease.

TCM PRO TIPS

🥕EAT

Include yellow and orange vegetables in your meals which are naturally sweet - think carrots, sweet potatoes, butternut squash and pumpkin. Add warming spices to your meals like cinnamon, cumin and cardamon. Aromatics wake up the spleen and offer added support to the digestive nature of these organs. Seasonal fruits, like peaches, pears and figs should be eaten in moderation.

🤐AVOID/MINIMIZE

Excess cold and raw foods, sugar and dairy. These tend to promote dampness in the body which can show up as gas, bloating, loose stool, fatigue, especially after eating, poor memory and concentration.

🧘‍♀️PRACTICE

Grounding and contemplative practices like walking meditation, earthing (getting your feet and body on the earth), yin yoga and slow deep breathing can have a measured effect on the rest/digest part of your nervous system. Bringing consistent routines into your life that calm the nervous system can be a game changer.

Finally, meet with your Acupuncturist at the seasonal shift to boost immunity and address any weakness or disharmony that may be related to your 5-element constitution. Your belly and mind will thank you!

That sudden rush of heat, the flushed cheeks, the restless nights... it’s not random. It’s your body communicating that yang is rising without enough yin to anchor it. And during perimenopause—a time of profound transition—that message tends to get louder.

There are gentle ways to cool from the inside out. Begin your mornings grounded, maybe barefoot on the earth or flowing through a few quiet moments of Qi Gong. Swap spicy meals and alcohol for calming nourishment like watermelon or hibiscus tea. Yin postures like Supported Fish and Melting Heart help draw energy inward and downward. Even the simple ritual of applying moxa to the bottom of your foot—an ancient point called K1—can help release that excess heat and bring you back to balance.

The goal isn’t to fight the symptoms. It’s to honor them, soften around them, and let your body feel supported—just as it is.

Hormonal changes in perimenopause ripple far beyond your cycle. Estrogen influences serotonin (your feel-good brain chemical), blood sugar stability, and even how well your gut moves. That’s why you might feel fine one day, then anxious, bloated, or exhausted the next. It’s not in your head—your whole system is adapting.

The good news? You can work with these changes, not against them.

Start by feeding your body what it’s really asking for. Think whole, fiber-rich meals to support hormone detox. Add in fermented foods to help your gut thrive, and don't skip leafy greens—magnesium helps calm anxiety and promote better sleep. Omega-3s are another key player, bringing steady energy and supporting your mood when things feel unpredictable.

And beyond food? Pay attention to the rhythm of your day. How you eat, when you rest, and the way you create space for stillness—all of it helps your body feel safe and supported during this powerful transition.

Your neck holds more than tension…

👇TCM Insight

The neck is a powerful pillar that connects mind and body. It’s a gateway between the spiritual and physical, and houses multiple meridians like Gallbladder and Urinary Bladder channels, which govern flexibility and resilience, and Large Intestine, Small Intestine and Stomach channels which guide our ability to digest life through our experiences, emotions and thoughts. Tension or pain in the neck muscles often signals blocked Qi, unresolved stress, and potential imbalances in the Liver or Kidney systems which govern tendons, emotional free flow and bone health. Gentle practices like acupuncture, Thai massage and yin yoga can help untie both physical and emotional knots while activating Qi and blood flow to relieve stagnation. Manual practices like gua sha, cupping and Tui na are great follow up treatments to improve microcirculation, decrease muscle tension and remove stuck debris from the tissues. Let your neck be a bridge to connect energy throughout the body, not a battlefield.

💡Pro Tips

♨️Keep it warm, to keep you warm.
🙏Move mindfully, especially in spring.
💨Cover it up when the wind blows.
👂When your body talks, listen.

🔥 Summer invites us into the Fire Element—the season of living wide open.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Fire is the height of yang energy. It governs the Heart, Small Intestine, Pericardium (Heart Protector), and Triple Burner (San Jiao)—all deeply involved in the circulation of blood, emotions, and energy.

When your Fire Element is in harmony, you feel light, expressive, and connected. You laugh more. Your skin glows. You speak from the heart.

But when Fire is overwhelmed—by stress, hormonal changes, or life’s intensity—it shows up as:
• Anxiety or insomnia
• Emotional volatility
• Feeling disconnected or closed off
• Hot flashes, palpitations, or facial redness

This summer, we’ll explore how to nourish this element—cooling the excess and stoking what’s needed to help you feel more like you. Especially during the wild hormonal ride of perimenopause.

✨ Because when your Heart is nourished, your whole system shines.
