November 2nd is a day the Catholic Church consecrates to the deceased. The commemoration of “All Souls’ Day,” as we commonly call it in English, can be traced to the 9th century. While the church prays for the dead everyday during Mass, and in our individual devotions and prayers, we are asked today in a particular way to remember in prayer those who have died.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.

May their souls, and all the souls of the faithfully departed, through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.
