The count down has began! Don’t lose your FSA and HSA money! Do you know that you can use these pre-tax dollars for wellness services and products like acupuncture sessions and even DNA test kits?

Are you also aware that most medical insurances reset on Jan 1st? A typical annual insurance policy usually resets on January 1st, which means the annual deductible you have been trying to meet all year will reset as well.

If acupuncture is covered under your plan, now is the time to ensure you maximize your benefits before you lose them. While treatment is never dictated by insurance, if you have nagging pain that resurfaced or any new health concerns, this is the time to reach out to me and schedule follow-up appointments.

We have the power to control our breath, so do we have the power to control our reactions.

The 4-7-8 breathing is also know as the relaxing breath in yoga traditions, and is a handy self-soothe technique. It has helped me tremendously in anxiety-inducing moments of my life.

The technique is simple:

1️⃣ Breath out completely and rest the tip of your tongue behind the roof of the mouth
2️⃣ Breath in for a count for 4
3️⃣ Hold the breath for a count of 7
4️⃣ Exhale the breath through the mouth, making a “whoosh” sound, for a count of 8,
5️⃣ Repeat the sequence 4x as one rep.

Begin the practice with one rep. Once you’re familiar, you can do 2-4 reps at a time, twice a day, or anytime you need a moment to calm any overwhelming thoughts.

Eating fresh and seasonal produce is a great way to support the body as it goes through cyclical changes with the seasons. According to 5-element theory, Fall season is related to the Metal element. Pungent flavor is related to the Metal element as it has a dispersing effect that helps the Lung and Large Intestine meridians in the excretion of waste from the body.
Hence making Fall a great time to add more pungent flavored food to our diet.

Examples of pungent flavored food are ginger, scallion, radish and onions. Similarly, seasonal root vegetables such as parsnips, carrots, beetroots, pumpkin and leeks can help us stay grounded energetically. Root vegetables are typically rich in nutrients and complex carbohydrates. This promotes a steady 'slow burn' of glucose in the body and improves mental focus and physical endurance. Why not make a wholesome pumpkin and leek soup with ginger, or try a bed of roasted root vegetables with your choice of protein?

What do you love about the Fall? For me, I love the slightly chilly autumn weather, where I get to layer and start wearing booties again… all bundled up and drink spiced chai with a good read in hand. :)

After summer, our bodies need time to rest and rejuvenate. That is exactly why fall is a time to reflect on the season that has been and embrace the cozier moments of life.

September is Polycystic O***y Syndrome (PCOS) awareness month. PCOS is a hormone condition that affects 1 in 10 women around the world.

It’s estimated up to 75% of the women with PCOS do not know it or are misdiagnosed. This condition is caused by an elevated level of male hormones resulting in hormone imbalance. Genetics, insulin resistance, and inflammation can all play a part in this condition. Some of the common symptoms of PCOS are:
🟣 Excess hair growth or male pattern baldness
🟣 Acne
🟣 Irregular, skipped or heavy periods
🟣 Weight gain caused by insulin resistance
🟣 Headaches
🟣 Fatigue

Unfortunately, PCOS is also one of the most common cause of infertility. However, with proper medical support and lifestyle adjustments, many women with PCOS go on to conceive perfectly healthy babies.
