A Bakerβs cyst is a fluid-filled swelling that appears behind the knee. It often feels like tightness or a small lump, especially when bending or straightening the leg.
It usually does not develop on its own - it is often a sign of an underlying joint issue, such as inflammation, cartilage damage, or arthritis.
The cyst forms when excess fluid builds up in the knee and pushes to the back of the joint.
That is why treatment focuses not just on the cyst itself, but on addressing the underlying cause inside the joint.
