This week I invite you into my sanctuary with three gentle practices that support your body, breath, and inner calm. These aren’t busywork; they’re invitations to listen to yourself with tenderness and curiosity. When you walk out of your session, I want you to feel not just relief, but a quiet alignment—a moment of self-love you can carry with you through your day.

1) 5-Minute Mindful Breath: Sit comfortably, soften the shoulders, place a hand on your chest and one on your abdomen. Inhale through the nose for 4 counts, exhale for 6. Repeat for 5 minutes.

2) Light Neck & Shoulder Circles: Inhale to lengthen the spine, tilt the head gently from side to side, circle the shoulders—5 each direction, then 5 forward and 5 back.

3) 60-Second Body Scan: Close your eyes, notice sensations from feet to face, exhale to invite release at each point. A few rounds bring clarity and ease.

I’ve learned that there are two worlds I carry: the one I see and the one I live in every day. The outside world is bright and loud, but the world inside me deserves just as much care. When my inner world is overflowing; with breath, rest, and gentle moments, I have more compassion, clarity, and energy to share with others.

I choose to nourish my body, calm my mind, and tend my spirit with the same tenderness I offer to the people I serve. Holistic care isn’t a trend; it’s a practice: move with ease, eat with gratitude, sleep with intention, breathe with purpose, and set gentle boundaries.

Today I remind myself: before I give to the world, I refill my own well so I can show up fully, warmly, and authentically. If you’re listening to this, take a moment to ask: How is my inner world feeling today? What small act of self-care can I gift myself right now?

You deserve a thriving inner ecosystem as much as you deserve lasting relief in your muscles and joints. Let’s honor both, together. Sending you calm energy, soft breaths, and a reminder that your well-being isn’t selfish - it’s essential.

When we focus on this area, I aim to address the key muscles and how breathing ties in. The side of the neck, collarbone area, and top of the shoulders involves the SCM, scalene group, levator scapulae, and the deep neck extensors working in concert with the pectoralis minor and the clavicular head of pec major. Tightness here can restrict rib cage expansion and neck alignment, often reflecting posture, daily habits, and breathing patterns. With a light, steady touch, I work to soften these patterns, freeing up space for easier breaths and more comfortable shoulder movement.

Breath is central to the work. The scalene group and SCM influence the rib cage and upper chest, so I tailor pressure and tempo to support relaxed, diaphragmatic breathing during the session. Gentle releases in the SCM, scalenes, and levator scapulae, along with safe neck and upper-chest stretches, help restore natural rib expansion and neck alignment. The aim is to reduce guarding and provide a foundation for deeper, calmer breaths and freer movement.

Aftercare centers on sustaining breathing-friendly ease. We’ll check in about how your breath feels, maintain hydration to support fascia, and provide simple self-care tools—breathing drills, gentle neck/shoulder moves, and light self-massage—that reinforce the release. If tension returns or breathing feels constrained, we’ll adjust and plan the next steps together. The goal is for you to leave with improved tone, better breathing, and tools to maintain the relief between sessions.

Chris Minehan has been professionally practicing massage therapy for over 13 years, after receiving training and certification at The Center for Natural Wellness School of Massage Therapy.

Chris uses a combination of techniques including deep tissue, Thai and sports massage, along with hot stone and cupping therapy as well as other wellness practices to customize each individual treatment.

Chris views every session as an opportunity to promote the nurturing and healing of both your body and mind and to incite positive, productive and relaxing results. With each holistic treatment, you regain control of your body and mind and become more aware of your being.
