For more than 30 years, The Arc of Katy has been creating opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to engage fully in their community throughout their lifetimes. We are pleased to help enrich the lives of people with IDD conditions such as Autism spectrum disorders and Down syndrome and to provide resources for their families. We offer an adult activity day p

rogram five days a week from September through May, a summer program for adults and teens age 16 years and older from June through August, weekend social programs, Empowerment through Knowledge classes for care givers and educators, and other resources to support people with IDD and their families. Our program participants, age 16 to 60 plus, are engaged, active members of our community. They enjoy experiences with friends, visiting area attractions, participating in local events, healthy activities, and community service projects. We work to conquer the social isolation that people with Autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome, and other diagnosis of IDD often experience by delivering high quality, safe, healthy, and affordable opportunities for lifelong learning, skills development, social enrichment, recreation, and community service. As we are proud of all that The Arc of Katy has achieved during the past 30 years, we continue to be focused on the future because we realize that as our community grows, so does the need for programs and services for people with IDD. Families move to the Katy area because of excellent education resources provided by Katy Independent School District and other area institutions. Families with children with special needs move here because of life skills programs and other community resources available to youth and teens with special needs. There is growing demand for community programs to supplement what the schools provide and to continue to support the wellbeing and inclusion of people with IDD in our community after they are no longer in school.

Creating opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities

The Arc of Katy is a 501(c)3 charitable organization that provides opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) to be included as respected and active members of the community throughout their lifetimes. The organization was formed about 30 years ago by parents and teachers of youth and adults with I/DD, who were concerned that some were becoming socially isolated after graduating from high school.

Our program participants are engaged, active members of our community. They enjoy experiences with friends, visiting community attractions and participating in area events, healthy activities, and community service projects. We work to conquer the social isolation that people with I/DD often experience by delivering high quality, safe, healthy, and affordable opportunities for skills development, social enrichment, and recreational and community service activities for our participants from age 16 to 60 plus.

Programs we provide include:

  • summer sessions from June through August for teens and adults with I/DD
