We have received many phone calls about the safety of COVID vaccination in pregnant and breastfeeding women, and women who are planning on conceiving in the near future. The evidence tells us COVID vaccination is safe for these groups of women. Below is a link from The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists for further reading about this issue.

Quick anatomy lesson!

It is SO important for women to understand their bodies. I am always amazed at women who come see me and have never been taught the proper names for the various organs that make up their reproductive system.

So here we go!

The uterus is where a baby grows. The lining of the uterus is called the endometrium. This is what sheds during a woman’s period. The uterus is also where IUDs are placed.

The cervix is the lower portion of the uterus. It is what dilates during labor. This is where a Pap smear is taken from to screen for cervical cancer.

The ovaries hold a woman’s eggs. Did you know women are born with all the eggs they will ever have? The ovaries also create important hormones that help regulate a woman’s menstrual cycle.

The ovarian ligament connects the o***y to the uterus.

The fallopian tube is like a bridge that connects the o***y to the uterus. It is normally where the s***m and egg meet.

The fimbriae are located at the end of the fallopian tube, close to the o***y. They look like little fingers and help to sweep the egg up into the fallopian tube when it is released during ovulation.

The va**na is a canal that connects the cervix and uterus to the outside world. This is where tampons are placed.

Hope that helps!
