Letts EMS-Franklin County Paramedics Letts Fire/EMS is proud to be providing Paramedic level ambulance service to Franklin Co Indiana

07/25/2025

We've been asked several times, "Why is there an ambulance sitting at the Yellowbank trailhead?"

The answer is simple: It's part of our strategic response system. When the Brookville ambulance is out on an emergency, Yellowbank serves as a designated staging area for an additional unit. This allows us to provide faster response times throughout the county.

We utilize a method known as System Status Management (SSM) — a dynamic deployment strategy that positions ambulances based on real-time demand. This ensures coverage remains strong even when one or more units are committed to calls.

From January 1, 2025, to today, we have repositioned or brought in additional ambulances 324 times to maintain adequate EMS coverage in Franklin County.

With the closure of U.S. 52 on August 1st, we are upstaffing and proactively adjusting our coverage plans to minimize any delays in response. Our priority is — and always will be — to ensure timely care during medical emergencies.

We appreciate the community’s support as we work to keep Franklin County safe!

Supporting Our Neighbors Through Mutual Aid

Did you know that Letts EMS has mutual aid agreements with surrounding Paramedic EMS providers?

Mutual aid is a system used when an EMS agency becomes overloaded with emergency calls. Through these agreements, neighboring services like ours step in to assist, ensuring no call goes unanswered. Mutual aid helps strengthen regional emergency response, improve patient outcomes, and maintain public safety—even during the most demanding situations.

When Letts EMS is requested for mutual aid, we implement system status management to keep Franklin County covered. This means we strategically reposition ambulances to maintain adequate coverage while responding to calls outside the county.

A perfect example of this happened just last Sunday. Fayette County EMS was managing a serious accident that tied up all their ambulances. Letts EMS responded to a seizure call on the south side of Connersville, sending an ambulance from Metamora and a Paramedic chase vehicle from Brookville. At the same time, our Battalion Chief deployed two additional Paramedic ambulances into Franklin County—one staged at Yellowbank, and the other at Andersonville—to ensure local readiness.

This is just one example of how regional cooperation and thoughtful resource management allow us to deliver dependable, high-quality emergency care—no matter the location.

We’re proud to serve Franklin County and support our neighbors when called upon.

PRESS RELEASE

Brookville Lake:

At approximately 22:10 last night, Franklin County Communications received a 911 call regarding an injured raccoon hunter near Brookville Lake. Emergency responders from Brookville Fire, Franklin County Sheriff's Office, Indiana Conservation Officers, and Letts EMS were dispatched to the Garrhill Boat Ramp. Additional support was requested from Brookville Police Department and Blooming Grove Fire Department.
Personnel located the injured hunter approximately 1.25 miles from the Garrhill Boat Ramp. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was unable to walk. Letts EMS Paramedic Meyers assessed the patient, and UC AirCare was requested for transport. UC AirCare was subsequently landed at the spillway.
Responders stabilized the patient, securing him to a backboard and stokes basket for a carry-out operation along the shoreline of Brookville Lake. Ice on the lake prevented the use of a boat for extraction. Given the distance, rugged terrain, and the personnel required for the operation, it took nearly five hours to transport the patient to the boat ramp. Throughout the extrication, paramedics closely monitored the patient’s condition and managed his pain.
This challenging rescue would not have been possible without the dedication and teamwork of every responder involved. We extend our gratitude to all who assisted and wish the patient a full and speedy recovery.

Exciting News: New Facility Coming to Brookville!

We are thrilled to share that we have acquired property from the estate of James Hyde, located on Main Street in Brookville, for the construction of a new facility. This building will house the trucks and crews currently stationed at the Margaret Mary Health complex in Brookville (District 2).

The design and engineering work for the building are underway, and the property survey is scheduled. Once these tasks are completed, we will begin the permitting process. Our goal is to have the new facility ready by early summer.

Please note, the truck assigned to Metamora (District 1) will remain in Metamora.

We look forward to this important project and its positive impact on the community!

It is with great sadness we announce the death of Retired Sheriff’s Deputy John Roberts. Deputy Roberts began his career with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department in 2003 and retired from duty in February of 2024. Deputy Roberts was the true definition of a public servant and devoted his life to his community and family.

Deputy Roberts will be missed greatly, and we wish to extend our deepest condolences to his family.
