Caution photos are nasty:
We need reform in our animal services through the police. My business will stand behind a reform to the process of animal treatment. On many occasions I have been to the humane society for 1 reason or another. They are quick to pick up a loved pet and charge you money however they refuse services for animals that are injured or stray. I'm going to lay out the facts in this current case. This will show you how much we care for the animals we feed and come in contact with.
2 weeks ago I received a phone call from my wife stating a stray cat showed up with a protruding bone in its right front leg. Grant it the wound was healed but the cat is in poor condition.
I called animal control for my wife because she didn't want me to take away it's suffering. Animal control sent Vance Police Dept out.
Vance Police Dept came out. Set this kitten on the ground "to examine" the animal and allowed it to run away. My wife caught it and handed back to the (what I felt was an incompetent) officer in which he did the same mannerisms and let it go again. He then stated that he would have to have it in his hands to give it to t.a.c. that if we caught it that we could take it to the humane society or to the mccalla vet
Fast-forward to Sunday March 2nd 7pm.
The kitten showed back up and we gave it some water. I was taking it to mccalla vet when they started to me even with this animal having a protruding bone. If I didn't intend on keeping it and paying for the surgery they wanted nothing to do with it and to take it to the humane society.
So I went to humane society. Before 12 Grant it, however there was an animal control officer and a lady counting dog kennels behind the fence. I asked if they could take the animal to help it or euthanize it and they stated to me. They can't accept any animal from the punlic until 12. UNTIL 12. I know he has a puss bone sticking out and he's in bad shape but it can wait till 12 right -_-
She then stated I would need to give it to animal control. WHO WAS STARING AT ME and hopped in his truck. I walked up to him and asked if he would take it to give it to the other lady for chain of custody in which he asked where I live.
Why does that matter?
Because of jurisdiction.
Vance Tuscaloosa county.
Oh that's not my area I can't accept him.
DO YOU NOT SEE THE BONE, THE PUSS, THE BLOOD?
ya but I can't do nothing about it, you have to take it to Vance PD.
So I did. I literally was in the parking lot when I said I was taking it to Vance PD because his incompetent officer kept putting it down and letting it run off on purpose. He then asked my name and I told him and he said since I called his officer incompetent that he will be notating who I am, and he said the mayor of Vance PD put out an ordinance that they no longer collect strays unless they are vicious.
So why was that not said by animal control the first call, why was that not stated when Vance PD came out and played games with our time and tax payer dollars. Where was this information before I blindly followed the instructions of my local law enforcement all in the end to be belittled by a Sargeant at Vance PD for calling his officer incompetent because he couldn't hold a car and look at it's festering wound. I will not get my gas back I will not get my time back, and now the only option I have for this poor stray animal and it's itty bitty head and body is to end it's suffering and hope I hit first round.
Oh also humane society stated because I gave it water technically they can no longer take it because I claimed it
