Black Pines Life Expands Programming with New Classes, Outdoor Adventures, and Community Engagement
Salt Lake City, UT — Black Pines Life, a transitional living program for young men aged 18–25, continues to expand its approach to real-world learning and personal growth.
Over the past month, students have participated in a range of University of Utah lifelong learning classes, including fencing and “How to Cook the Perfect Steak,” alongside outdoor hikes, skill-building activities, and the excitement of welcoming a new student into the program.
These diverse experiences reflect Black Pines Life’s ongoing commitment to helping young men build independence, confidence, and resilience through structured support and meaningful engagement. The program’s model blends life skills, education, and adventure to create a balanced pathway toward self-sufficiency.
“Character is not defined by what we say we will do, but by what we follow through on,” said Kolby Kimball, Co-Founder of Black Pines Life. “At Black Pines, we teach our young men that maintaining commitments—whether it’s showing up to class, finishing a hike, or sticking to personal goals—is the foundation of growth. True independence comes when accountability becomes second nature.”
The program continues to prioritize individualized growth through small group sizes, enabling staff and mentors to focus on personal accountability, community involvement, and achieving a healthy work-life balance.
From hands-on learning in the kitchen to physical and mental challenges in the outdoors, Black Pines Life reinforces that growth happens when young men step beyond their comfort zones and into real-life experiences.
