My practice is rooted in my belief in the resilience of the human spirit, and inspired by my passion for supporting teens and others in the process of healing and growth. Although it can be daunting to think about sharing personal details of life with someone you don’t know, it is my experience that when counseling is approached as a warm and collaborative undertaking, the discomfort eases quickly. Part of being human is having a constant stream of thoughts floating through your mind. Your thoughts will come and go. All the time. And that’s normal. There are times when this might shift into overdrive but… you do have some power!

You decide which thoughts you pay attention to. It’s your choice.
If you’re able to observe the fact that you’re overthinking, then you’re already noticing the separation of you and your mind and that’s a win! It really is that simple.

Yep, You choose when to pay attention.
No exceptions.
Put your brain on notice that your thinking doesn’t control you anymore.

Your needs matter, so don’t let anyone else write your story.

Go home and take care of yourself? = Winning

There’s more than one way to show strength.

Whatever you do, whichever direction you flex in, however you embark on the path to showing up for yourself, if your decisions are based on what is best for you mentally and physically, they’re the right ones.

We are energy. Everything is energy.
It can be positive or negative and super easy to get yours in a knot.

Many people have their own tricks for untangling and shifting their energy. It’s important to move the focus away from the “bag of idiots”, protect yourself, and really zero in on the choice not to let that person or situation sink you.

What’s the key?
Take a moment to ground into your own energy.
Stand firm and strong in your own aura, and acknowledge that that person's energy is not yours to carry.

More Techniques for Shifting Your Energy
1. Tap into your 5 senses
2. Take your shoes off, go barefoot - feel your feet connecting you to the earth.
3. Find water- drink it. feel it, get in it, listen to it.
4. Take some slow, deep breaths, all the way into the lower third of your lungs.
5. Try smiling—even if you don't feel like it.
6. Think about the things that you are grateful for.
7. Do something nice for someone else.
8. Change your environment- get outside
9. Music, music, music.
10. Symbolically release your feelings- write them down.
11. Check in with others. Ask a friend or loved one to support you in changing things up.
12. Be compassionate toward yourself.

You might need a moment to yourself and a chance to recharge your internal “batteries”.

Alone time can help decrease stress, boost creativity, expand empathy and gratitude, up your social energy and may just be the key to truly restorative rest.

Decide if you want to keep at it, or give yourself permission to let it go if it’s just not your thing (Newsflash ~ not everything will be, and that's okay)

Accept (and celebrate) that you’re an awkward, beautiful human mess.
