“We need your help in requesting that the Colorado Senate OPPOSE HB 1075, which would take the first real step toward establishing universal healthcare in Colorado.
HB 1075 would establish an “analysis collaborative” for the purpose of eventually drafting legislation to adopt a statewide universal healthcare payment system.
A universal healthcare system in Colorado is not necessary. With the Public Option and the Reinsurance Program, Coloradans have seen a steady and dramatic increase in health insurance enrollment.
Connect for Health has seen an 18% increase in enrollment over the last open enrollment period in 2023.
77% of Connect for Health members receive financial help that lowers their costs.
Coloradans recognized $667,007,962 in total federal tax credits through Connect for Health.
Three out of five customers could find a plan for $10 per month or less after Advance Premium Tax Credits were applied.
Colorado received $245 million in federal funding that directly reduces insurance costs for Coloradans.
Connect for Health has a $46 million annual budget.
According to Commissioner Mike Conway: "The Reinsurance Program continues to deliver on the more than $1 billion dollars the program has reduced premiums since it began. ... The federal government objectively analyzed the impact of the Colorado Option and the Reinsurance Program, and found that overall, they reduced premiums and made coverage more affordable.”
Given these facts, a cumbersome and costly universal system is not necessary in Colorado. Please join Warner Pacific and the National Association of Benefits and Insurance Professionals (NABIP) in urging the Legislature to continue to fund the program we currently have in place that has been proven to be successful.
