Survivor Spotlight: Stella P.
This month we are highlighting Stella and her survivor journey!
Stella was diagnosed in April 2024. Though she works full time, she is continuing with her rehabilitation. Stella states, “Anne was very helpful with recommendations/education regarding post mastectomy care, scar massage, and ongoing education regarding what to expect with chemo therapy. Bethel’s instructions on exercises helped me to return to full ROM (range of motion) easily.”
When we asked Stella who her biggest sources of support were, she said, “My husband and friends. I had nurse friends that helped to take care of my basic needs, like showering for the first couple of weeks after surgery. I’m blessed to have my mother living near me and checks on me daily and brings me to chemotherapy.”
Stella says that breast cancer changed her outlook on life by, “proving that I am even stronger that I thought I was and can definitely overcome anything as God is with me every step of the way.” Stella also says, “I am trusting my gut instincts more as I have come to realize that this is God showing me His presence and giving me direction.”
The most valuable lesson that Stella learned through this journey was to trust. Stella says, “I am still learning to TRUST: my body, my God, my support system.” Her advice for those going through breast cancer is to “just BREATHE, cry and know that it is going to be OK.” Stella also shares, “Do your research on treatment/surgical options and make informed decisions, not emotional decisions. You are you are own advocate and know what will be best for you. Ask questions and accept all the support being offered.”
Stella would like to share a prayer that inspired her during her journey: “’Calm My Troubled Heart’: Heavenly Father, I come before you today with a heavy heart. I’m crushed by my own fears and worries. Please grant me the serenity and calm my troubled heart. Fill me with your hope and help me to understand that everything is going according to your plan. Show me the right path, so I may follow you in faith. Thank you for being a source of peace in my life through troubling times. In Jesus’ name, I pray.”
Thank you, Stella, for sharing your story with all of us.
