When we talk about the history of nursing, Florence Nightingale is often the first name that comes to mind. But did you know that Mary Seacole, a Jamaican-born nurse, was also a trailblazer in healthcare? Despite facing racial discrimination, she independently traveled to the Crimean War (1853-1856) and established the British Hotel, a safe space where she treated wounded soldiers with compassion and holistic healing practices.

๐น In 1857, she wrote an autobiography, "The Wonderful Adventures of Mrs. Seacole in Many Lands", making her one of the first Black women to publish her own story.
