It may be time to seek professional support if behavioral challenges:

Are increasing in frequency or intensity
Interfere with school, work, or relationships
Cause safety concerns
Do not improve with typical parenting or coping strategies
Are accompanied by mood changes, anxiety, or withdrawal

Early intervention can make a meaningful difference and prevent patterns from becoming more entrenched over time.

Hope and Progress Are Possible

6 SKILLS FOR OVERCOMING OBSESSIVE THOUGHTS

Intense, distressing Obsessive thoughts can become overwhelming and consume endless blocks of time. Exposure and Response Prevention [ERP] is the 'gold standard' for treating OCD. Some people with OCD have obsesssions with no overt compulsions. The compulsion is covert -- it's a set of internal rituals. Let's review that and steps one can take to overcome mild obsessional OCD. For more severe cases, seek an ERP therapist.

People, especially teens and younger adults, are turning to AI companions, AI for therapeutic help, AI for guidance. But Chatbots are not well designed for these functions. They can reinforce inapproriate understandings and responses. Mental Health professionals should be more knowledgeable about this trend and able to give some recommendations. We see complaints and articles about adolescent su***de and other negative impacts, but not much in the way of comprehensive guidance. We have prepared a first effort at guidance for using AI for these purposes. https://lnkd.in/gFcdr4nz

Effective treatment for behavioral challenges goes beyond surface-level behavior management. At Shorehaven, therapy focuses on understanding the function of behavior, not just correcting it.

Treatment may include:

Identifying emotional triggers and patterns
Teaching emotional regulation and coping skills
Strengthening communication and problem-solving abilities
Supporting parents and caregivers with practical strategies
Addressing co-occurring mental health concerns

Building consistency across home, school, and community environments

For many individuals, therapy provides a safe space to develop insight, self-control, and healthier ways of responding to stress.

What Is the Compulsion in Obsessional OCD?
Most people with OCD have overt compulsions, such as hand washing or checking repeatedly to make sure the door is locked and the gas is off. Sometimes, a person has obsessive ruminations without an overt compulsion. These can be very disturbing. It turns out the compulsion is internal, covert. Namely, it's unproductively going over and over the thoughts, seeking reassurance, hoping for relief, while actually reinforcing and worsening the obsessions.

Due to mental health provider shortages, cost barriers, stigma, and discomfort with talking to others, millions of people are using AI chatbots for emotional support, AI tools offer genuine benefits — 24/7 availability, judgment-free interaction, skills practice, and reduced isolation. But they carry serious risks. AI has failed dangerously in crisis situations, is designed to validate rather than challenge unhealthy thinking, lacks HIPAA protection, and can generate false clinical information. Heavy use is often linked to increased loneliness and reduced socializing. Chatbots can't develop an empathic therapeutic alliance. This article guides the public toward safer choices: preferring clinically designed apps over general chatbots, setting usage limits, disclosing AI use to their therapist, and never substituting AI for crisis support.
