What to look for on an ingredient label — and what to ignore!

When you read an ingredient label look for function. The first 3–4 ingredients on a label make up the majority of the formula — often 80–95% of what you’re actually applying.

After that, the percentages drop. Which means many ingredients listed toward the bottom are present in much smaller amounts. That doesn’t make them bad — but it does mean they’re not the backbone of the product and you didn't get what you paid for.

Ask yourself:
• Is there a true active ingredient?
• Does it make sense for my skin type?

So, if the ingredient being heavily marketed is near the
bottom of the list, it may not be doing as much as you think.

What you can ignore:

• Buzzwords on the front of the bottle
• “Clean” marketing without explanation (there is a lot that goes into this)
• Trend ingredients with no clear purpose in your routine

Not every popular ingredient is necessary.
Good skincare isn’t about fear.
It’s about fit--for you and your skin.

If you don’t understand what something is doing for your skin, it may not belong in your routine.

Healthy skin starts with understanding.

Warmly,

Lou
