November is filled with many conditions and disease awareness, one being Alzheimer's disease.

Alzheimer's begins 20 years or more before memory loss and other symptoms develop. The brain, like the heart, is an organ. Just as coronary artery disease is a type of heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease is a type of brain disease. In Alzheimer’s, nerve cells in the brain are damaged and destroyed. The brain’s nerve cells are essential to all human activity, including thinking, talking and walking. Currently 7 million Americans living with it and the numbers keep rising each year. Help raise awareness, show support, and fight Alzheimer's disease!

Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects motor nerve cells in the spinal cord, impacting essential muscle functions such as breathing, eating, crawling, and walking. Spinal Muscular Atrophy is a hereditary neurodegenerative disorder that negatively affects the motor control of 1/10000 people across the lifespan depending on type with which diagnosed. A decline in muscle strength is common affecting an individual’s ability to contribute and participate in society, increasing their economic burden, and in extreme cases, results in death. Hospitalization costs an average of 100k annually for these individuals. Therapy can help reduce hospitalizations, burden on caregivers, and provide education on how to manage this progressive chronic condition to improve these outcomes.

It's a time to remind everyone to take precautions to protect themselves from the harmful effects of UV rays, such as sunburn and skin cancer.

Steps to protect your skin
-Use sunscreen with SPF 15+
-Put on sunscreen every 2 hours.
-Stay out of the sun as much as possible between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
-Cover up with long sleeves and a hat.
-Check your skin regularly for changes.
