A helpful reminder from Sheri Little, PMHNP, for the days that feel heavier than usual:

Lower the bar on hard days. Not every day has to be your best day, and it is okay to focus on the basics when you are feeling overwhelmed. Taking a shower, eating something, taking your medication, or completing one small task can still be meaningful progress.

This tip matters because mental health can affect energy, motivation, and the ability to manage everyday responsibilities. Giving yourself permission to do what is manageable can reduce pressure and help you move through the day with more self-compassion.

Small steps still count. Doing what you can is enough.

Welcome Julie Hampton, APRN, to A Plus Family HealthCare in Elizabethtown!

Julie is a Family Nurse Practitioner and a South Central Kentucky native who has called Elizabethtown home since 2009. Her nursing journey began with an Associate Degree from ECTC, followed by a BSN and MSN in Nursing Education from Walden University, and her Family Nurse Practitioner certification from Eastern Kentucky University.

Julie brings more than 13 years of nursing experience in maternal-newborn care, including postpartum, well baby nursery, and Level 2 NICU care, along with experience in nursing home, emergency department, chronic pain management, and nursing education. She also spent eight years teaching maternal-newborn and pediatric nursing, helping prepare future nurses to provide skilled, compassionate care.

For Julie, healthcare has always been about helping others, offering comfort, and giving a voice to those who may not be able to advocate for themselves. She is passionate about patient care, education, and making a meaningful difference for families in the community.

Outside of work, Julie enjoys reading, singing, traveling, family game nights, and watching her daughters dance. She and her husband, Chris, have been married for 15 years this May and have two daughters, Emelyn and Tennasyn. Their family also includes two Shih-Tzus, Moxie and Archie, and a pet turtle named Tally.

Please join us in welcoming Julie to A Plus Family HealthCare!

As we continue our Mental Health Awareness Month series, Ashley James, PMHNP, shares a helpful reminder for moments when anxiety start to build.

Simple coping skills can help your body and mind reset. Stepping away from the situation, taking a short walk, practicing slow breathing, drinking cold water, or running cold water over your hands can help create a pause when emotions feel intense.

This tip matters because being overwhelmed or anxious can make it hard to think clearly in the moment. Using a small grounding technique gives your nervous system a chance to settle, which may help you feel more present and better able to respond to what is happening.

Taking care of your mental health can include small, practical steps throughout the day.

We are proud to serve Edmonson County Schools through KidCare and help make sports physicals more convenient for students and families.

Our KidCare staff works with families on paperwork and helps make the process easier for busy parents. Sports physicals can be completed at school during the day, which helps families prepare for the season without adding another trip.

If your student still needs a sports physical, now is a good time to schedule. Please contact your student's school and speak with our KidCare staff.

Today’s May Mental Health Tip comes from Jerrina Gusler, PMHNP, with a reminder about how screen time can affect sleep.

Using phones, tablets, televisions, or computers too close to bedtime can make it harder for your mind and body to relax. Turning off electronics about 2 hours before bed may help reduce stimulation, create a calmer routine, and support better quality rest.

This tip matters because sleep and mental health are closely connected. When your body has time to wind down, it can be easier to fall asleep and wake up feeling more rested. A small change in your bedtime routine may also help reduce stress and give your mind a much-needed break at the end of the day.

Healthy sleep habits are one way to care for your mental well-being.
