🎥 We're thrilled to share a short film produced for BISD Food & Nutrition Services by BBC StoryWorks Commercial Productions as part of the Unearthing the Future series. This film beautifully captures our mission to bring students fresher, healthier meals cooked from scratch. 🫜🥦🥕🍓💚

At BISD FNS, our staff pours heart into every dish, our students pour joy into every bite, and our local farmers—Bonilla Farms, The Hour Farms, Terra Preta, and Sentli Farms—grow the food with love that reaches all the way to the cafeteria line. From farm to child, every step is care, dignity, and purpose. ✨

With rising student participation, over $4 million in grant support fueling scratch cooking and salad bars, and a new $10,000 TDA award that will take students to local farms, we are transforming how children experience food. 👨🏼‍🌾🚜🤠

And last night, we shared that experience with our guests through a homemade, scratch-made meatloaf dinner crafted with fresh protein, locally sourced vegetables, scratch-made mashed potatoes, and our vibrant salad bar—because school food can be nourishing, flavorful, and made with love. 💚🌱

✨ At BISD Food & Nutrition Services, we take pride in nourishing our students with meals made from scratch and served with care. Before they headed off for Christmas break, our team prepared a festive spread featuring homemade chicken pozole, tamales, flavorful ground beef picadillo, and fresh toppings like cilantro with onions, crisp cabbage, tomatoes, and warm local corn tortillas.

As we wrap up this season of sharing and celebration, BISD FNS wishes all our students, families, and staff a joyful, restful, and happy holiday season. 🎄✨

Good things are happening at BISD FNS! ✨ Our amazing FNS team is always looking for new ways to improve and serve our students. Today, we proudly introduced freshly procured raw ground beef patties 🍔, giving students at BECHS and the CTE Department the very first opportunity to experience them.

This special tasting is part of our ongoing efforts to explore new options and gather feedback as we continue enhancing our program.

🥔🍎 Good nutrition goes beyond the meal itself. It’s the foundation of our mission. This Thanksgiving, our FNS staff prepared warm, wholesome meals with care and love, including mashed potatoes made from real fresh potatoes.

We’re grateful to nourish healthy minds and bodies every day. 💛

BISD Food & Nutrition Services proudly hosted a Nutrition Education Activity to celebrate our successful completion of the October Farm Fresh Challenge! 🌽🥒🌮

During this engaging event, we spotlighted locally sourced ingredients that nourish our students, including cucumbers and zucchini from Terra Preta Farm in Weslaco, TX, and corn tortillas from Exquisita Tortillas in Edinburg, TX.

Students also enjoyed a delicious sample of chicken quesadilla with spinach, paired with refreshing cucumber water, a perfect way to taste the benefits of fresh, local produce!

We took the opportunity to educate students about the importance of supporting local agriculture and shared fun facts and stories about how these ingredients make their way from nearby farms and businesses to our school cafeterias.
Thank you to our local partners for helping us bring farm-fresh goodness to BISD!
