✨ At BISD Food & Nutrition Services, we take pride in nourishing our students with meals made from scratch and served with care. Before they headed off for Christmas break, our team prepared a festive spread featuring homemade chicken pozole, tamales, flavorful ground beef picadillo, and fresh toppings like cilantro with onions, crisp cabbage, tomatoes, and warm local corn tortillas.

As we wrap up this season of sharing and celebration, BISD FNS wishes all our students, families, and staff a joyful, restful, and happy holiday season. 🎄✨

Good things are happening at BISD FNS! ✨ Our amazing FNS team is always looking for new ways to improve and serve our students. Today, we proudly introduced freshly procured raw ground beef patties 🍔, giving students at BECHS and the CTE Department the very first opportunity to experience them.

This special tasting is part of our ongoing efforts to explore new options and gather feedback as we continue enhancing our program.

🥔🍎 Good nutrition goes beyond the meal itself. It’s the foundation of our mission. This Thanksgiving, our FNS staff prepared warm, wholesome meals with care and love, including mashed potatoes made from real fresh potatoes.

We’re grateful to nourish healthy minds and bodies every day. 💛

BISD Food & Nutrition Services proudly hosted a Nutrition Education Activity to celebrate our successful completion of the October Farm Fresh Challenge! 🌽🥒🌮

During this engaging event, we spotlighted locally sourced ingredients that nourish our students, including cucumbers and zucchini from Terra Preta Farm in Weslaco, TX, and corn tortillas from Exquisita Tortillas in Edinburg, TX.

Students also enjoyed a delicious sample of chicken quesadilla with spinach, paired with refreshing cucumber water, a perfect way to taste the benefits of fresh, local produce!

We took the opportunity to educate students about the importance of supporting local agriculture and shared fun facts and stories about how these ingredients make their way from nearby farms and businesses to our school cafeterias.
Thank you to our local partners for helping us bring farm-fresh goodness to BISD!

🌱 BISD is proud to serve fresh zucchini sourced directly from L & L Farms in Batesville, TX, during student lunches. Known for their commitment to sustainable farming and premium-quality produce, L & L Farms is led by Brandon and Kincaid, who prioritize responsible land stewardship and environmental balance to ensure healthy soil and vibrant crops.

Zucchini, a member of the summer squash family, brings both flavor and nutrition to the table. Students benefit from its rich profile of vitamins and minerals, especially when both the skin and inner portion are enjoyed.

Nutrients found in Summer Squash ~ Eating the skin and inside portion provides the full nutritional benefit. ~ A source of B vitamins, which help the body make and use energy. ~ Rich in vitamin C, which supports healing and reduces infection risk. ~ Contains manganese, a trace mineral that helps build bones and connective tissue.

Through this partnership, BISD continues to support local agriculture while nourishing students with fresh, wholesome ingredients grown with care. 💚🤠🚜✨
