So, what is autism?

Autism, formally known as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), is a developmental condition impacting an individual's social interactions, communication, and perception of the world. It manifests uniquely in each person, presenting a diverse array of symptoms and challenges. Key features include difficulties in social interaction, repetitive behaviors, communication obstacles (both verbal and nonverbal), and heightened sensory sensitivities. As a spectrum disorder, autism varies widely in its expression and severity across individuals. Importantly, individuals with autism often possess distinctive strengths and talents. Diagnosis typically occurs in early childhood, and timely intervention and support significantly enhance the lives of individuals with autism.
