Nervous about nutrition counseling? 😱 I get it! Who wants to talk to someone who’s going to scold them and take away their favorite foods? No one!

I take a different approach. I use gentle nutrition and intuitive eating to help people heal their relationships with food and their bodies. During the appointment, we’ll review your health history, lifestyle (kids? work? all that good stuff), and your goals. We’ll develop a plan together that works for you, with ongoing support provided in follow up appointments.

Afraid of losing control around certain foods? It’s probably not a “lack of willpower” or some fundamental flaw in your genetic code. It’s biology. When food is restricted for almost any reason (dieting, food insecurity, famine), our body thinks it’s starving, and to protect us, revs up our hunger and heightens our internal rewards system for obtaining food, triggering cravings.

After we’ve been on a few diets, our brains adapt, and start to trigger cravings earlier and more intensely.

So what do we do?
1. Reflect after “giving in” to a craving. What’s happening emotionally right now?
2. Have self compassion and understanding.
3. Break the Cycle. You don’t need to view this as a reason you can’t be trusted around food. Restricting or avoiding certain foods is what often leads to overeating.
