When there’s tension or misalignment in the jaw whether from clenching, TMJ dysfunction, or altered bite it changes head posture. Your body compensates to keep balance, often by tilting the pelvis or shifting your weight.

If your jaw is clenched, chances are your pelvic floor is either overactive or not firing properly. This affects posture, breath control, and how your nervous system regulates tension.

1. Jaw Clenching is a Postural Habit
Your jaw is wired to react under stress. The more it clenches, the more your head shifts forward, forcing your entire posture to compensate.

2. Tension Travels Down the Line
Stress in your jaw sends strain down your neck, spine, hips, and even your knees and feet. It never stays local.

3. Pelvic and Spinal Shifts Follow
When your jaw locks, your pelvis often tilts or rotates to restore balance. That can show up as back pain or one-sided hip tightness.

4. This Affects Every Step You Take
If the jaw is locked, breathing changes, balance is off, and your walking pattern breaks down. You feel it in your joints, but it starts at the top.

Most people don’t realize your jaw and pelvis are linked. Not just through posture or movement habits. Over time, these small changes can show up as chronic hip pain, pelvic instability, or forward head posture.
There’s also a functional link: the jaw and pelvic floor are both involved in how your body stabilizes the spine. They’re part of your core system.

Yesterday I was privileged to participate in the Runway for Hope event sponsored by the New England Breast Cancer Alliance. The theme was Candyland and the participants were asked to create costumes that represented their journeys as breast cancer survivors. So much inspiration in one room!

Love is to fear as light is to darkness. In the presence of one, the other cannot be.

No matter where you go today, silently bless no matter who you come into contact with and watch how the energy will shift around you.

All minds are joined. People subconsciously know everything. Practice walking around, looking at people and thinking to yourself “The love in me salutes the love in you.”

All thought creates form on some level; every thought takes us and those around us either to greater happiness or greater fear. The problem is that we think thought is neutral, which leads us to indulge all kinds of mind wandering. In our minds, we are constantly attacking ourselves and others with judgment and blame.

Just don’t do it today. Look at your mind as a car that you get to drive. Just gently witness your mind; if you see a thought that isn’t proactively loving, then change it. It takes work because it’s like training a muscle; we’re change our mental habits. And if we meditate in the morning, of course then it’s much easier.

Simply try it today. I promise you you will be happier.

Many of my clients describe the deep relaxation of reflexology as being like a "reset." They talk about feeling surprisingly relaxed during the session, then after being able to get out of their heads for a little while, they can refocus and move forward with more clarity. Sound good? (It does to me!) Visit www.solecallingreflexology.com today to book your session!

There is a very successful new piece of research that has just been published, showing Reflexology (proper Reflexology) to work better than a foot massage for patients undergoing hemodialysis. Check the paper out at https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39332137/

Is Stress Affecting Your Sleep?
Reflexology may help with that!

When we’re stressed, it can lead to not sleeping well… which can in turn cause more stress.

Did you know that…

• While we are sleeping our bodies are not just resting, but going through different sleep cycles where the body releases hormones to repair and regenerates tissues, bones, and muscles, restores energy, and helps you fight off or recover from illness. It also decreases other hormones such as cortisol, balances hormones that affect our feelings of hunger and fullness, etc.

• We need to enter the deeper stages of sleep for most of these healing and restoring processes to take place, which means when we’re not sleeping well it not only keeps us from feeling rested, but affects our overall health in numerous ways.

• When we’re in fight-or-flight mode the body tightens our muscles and sends more oxygen to the brain which can make it harder to fall asleep or stay asleep.

• In response to stress, our levels of many hormones change as our body reacts. It will increase production of the ones deemed more critical to the stressful situation (such as adrenaline and cortisol), while decreasing production of what are deemed to be non-critical hormones in dealing with the stress (such as those controlling the immune, digestive, reproductive, growth systems, and even our sleep).

The body is complex with many systems working in a holistic manner to keep the whole operation functioning properly. This means that when one aspect is out of balance, it can cause a chain reaction of events leading to poor sleep quality.

Restoring balance to the body and helping it achieve a deep state of relaxation are two of the main ways that reflexology can improve your sleep quality.

Schedule a reflexology session with a qualified reflexologist and start sleeping better!
