As we get older, we naturally lose Type 2 (fast twitch) muscle fibers - the ones responsible for strength, speed and power. These fibers are what help you get up from a chair quickly, climb stairs, or catch yourself if you trip.

Without regularly activating them, these muscles weaken over time, leading to slower reactions, reduced balance, and increased risk of falls or injury.

The good news is that you can train them at any age by
- Incorporating strength training with moderate to heavy resistance
- Adding in short bursts of power (like quick step-ups, light jumps, or medicine ball throws)

Keeping your Type 2 fibers strong mean maintaining independence, confidence and vitality as you age.

If you need help working on those Type 2 fibers or incorporating some of these exercises into your routine, please reach out to us!

We are excited to announce that we have added Class IV Laser Therapy to our list of services!

This advanced, non-invasive treatment uses therapeutic light energy to accelerate healing, reduce inflammation, and relieve pain. Laser Therapy works to

- Speed up tissue repair
- Reduce pain and swelling
- Improve circulation and mobility
- Be effective for chronic and acute conditions

Common conditions treated include:

- Muscle and joint pain
- Tendon and ligament injuries
- Arthritis and bursitis
- Plantar fasciitis
- Sciatica and neuropathy
- Post-surgical or post-injury recovery

Laser Therapy works well as a complement to Shockwave Therapy, which we also offer, as well as a stand-alone treatment. Whether you’re dealing with a nagging injury, chronic pain, or just want to speed up recovery, Class IV Laser Therapy offers a powerful option for healing and performance.

Although a great, and often underrated, form of exercise, walking does not replace strength training. If you're a walker, you should continue to walk. There are many benefits to walking. However, if strength training is not part of your weekly routine, it should become part of your routine to help improve and maintain muscle mass. This becomes even more important as we age.

We commonly talk to people who have a fear of injury or not sure where to start with strength training, especially if it's a new activity, if you have medical issues or if it's been a long time since you've done it. If that's the case for you, please reach out to us or another professional to help you get started!

I know Maine is still in winter... but it is getting close to breaking out the clubs for golf season. One of the common issues we see in the office with golfers is not moving well through the hips and not properly using the glutes for power. If not corrected, this will lead to injury. Don't be stuck on the sidelines for the golf season! Work on those hips! If you need help, we're here for you!
