Wellness Wednesday with Accel Physical Therapy 🌿

A strong, coordinated core supports posture, balance, and protects your back from injury. When these muscles are weak or out of sync, even simple movements can feel harder and strain your body.

👉 Try adding planks, bird dogs, or bridges to your routine — and remember, even sitting tall and engaging your core throughout the day helps build strength!

Stretch of the Week: The Prayer Stretch 🙏

Ease tension and improve flexibility in your lower back with this simple and effective stretch!

👉 How to do it:
1️⃣ Start on your hands and knees.
2️⃣ Gently sit your hips back toward your heels, reaching your arms forward on the floor.
3️⃣ Let your chest lower toward the mat and relax your head between your arms.
4️⃣ Hold for 20–30 seconds, breathing deeply, then return to start.
5️⃣ Repeat 2–3 times for best results.

This stretch helps release tightness in your lumbar spine, hips, and shoulders — perfect for anyone who spends time sitting or lifting. 🌿

Exercise Spotlight: Scissor Kicks 🔥

Build lower abdominal strength and core control with this advanced move!

👉 How to do it:
1️⃣ Lie flat on your back with your arms down at your sides.
2️⃣ Press your lower back firmly into the mat—no light should sneak underneath!
3️⃣ Lift both legs a few inches off the ground to start.
4️⃣ Raise one leg up toward the ceiling while the other lowers toward the floor, but never drop lower than 6 inches above the ground.
5️⃣ Alternate legs in a smooth, controlled motion, keeping your core tight throughout.

⚠️ Note: This is not a beginner exercise. If you feel any pain or discomfort in your back, stop immediately and try a gentler core variation.

💪🏼 Know Your Core: The Layers of Your Abdominal Muscles!

Your “core” is more than just abs — it’s a team of muscles working together to stabilize, support, and move your body. Here’s a quick look from superficial (outer) to deep (inner) layers:

1️⃣ Re**us Abdominis – The “six-pack” muscle that flexes your spine.
2️⃣ External Obliques – Run diagonally; help rotate and side-bend your trunk.
3️⃣ Internal Obliques – Lie just beneath the externals, adding rotation and stability.
4️⃣ Transversus Abdominis – The deepest layer, wrapping around like a corset to protect your spine and organs.

A strong core supports better posture, balance, and injury prevention!

Stretch of the Day: Butterfly Stretch 🦋

A simple way to open your hips & improve flexibility!

How to do it:
1️⃣ Sit up tall and bring your feet together.
2️⃣ Gently let your knees drop toward the floor.
3️⃣ Add pillows or blocks under your knees for support if needed.

👉 Great for hip mobility, posture, and easing lower back tension.
