Trust, compassion and expertise can make all the difference—and one patient recently shared how meaningful their experience was with board-certified medical oncologist, Abraham Cheong, MD, with Southeast Georgia Physician Associates-Hematology & Oncology.

“I am thrilled to have Dr. Cheong as my doctor. He’s a wonderful, caring physician with a wealth of knowledge, and I have complete confidence that he is directing my treatment in the best possible way for the best results. Everything he has shared with me and my wife has come across as sincere and knowledgeable.”

We’re proud to have physicians like Dr. Cheong on our team delivering exceptional care with both expertise and heart. 💙

Meet Carl Vitente, Information Processing Specialist, in our Medical Records department! A vital behind-the-scenes hero, he’s been part of the Health System family since 2019. Originally from Miami, Florida, Carl brings a passion for helping others to every aspect of his multifaceted role. He wears many hats in his department, overseeing areas like timekeeping, information management and systems access. His work may be behind the scenes, but its impact is front and center in helping everything run smoothly.

Carl’s diverse background extends beyond his role. Born in the Philippines, raised in Miami and having spent half a year living in Germany, he’s fluent in English and Tagalog, conversational in Spanish and has an elementary grasp of German—a reflection of his global experiences and appreciation for connection.

With a background in rehabilitation administration and a deep appreciation for patient care, Carl is also a published writer, a video editor and a cat dad to 13-year-old Desi. Outside of work, he cherishes time with his wife, Elly. This year marks 11 years since they met and 4 years of marriage! 🐾❤️

Carl dreams of traveling the world (Japan is high on the list!) and living each day with the kindness his late grandmother instilled in him. He’s most grateful for the peaceful home he returns to each day, and we’re grateful to have him on our team.

👏 Thank you, Carl, for all you do!

Exceptional care can be found close to home—and our patients say it best.

“This is a smaller hospital, but don’t let that put you off. The hospital is modern, pristine and very clean—astounding for a facility in a more rural area of the state. From arrival through the procedure and eventual discharge, the staff were superb, attentive and friendly, providing high-quality care throughout the entire experience.”

We’re proud to serve our Camden community with care you can trust. 💙

“If I feel fine, I don’t need to test my blood sugar.”

👉 Myth. You can have diabetes even without noticeable symptoms. Be aware of signs like increased thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, blurred vision or slow-healing wounds—and talk with your health care provider if you notice any of these.

At Southeast Georgia Health System, our nationally recognized Diabetes Education Program helps people learn to manage diabetes and live well—whether or not they’ve started showing symptoms.

🏋️ Getting back into the gym this season? Take it slow and stay safe!

Jumping in too quickly can lead to aches, pains or injuries—but with the right approach, you can build lasting habits safely. Jason G. Bowman, MD, board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with Summit Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Surgery, shares practical tips:

•Ask for help from a trainer and use a spotter
•Warm up for 5-10 minutes before lifting
•Start with manageable weights and focus on form
•Balance exercise with rest
•Wear proper shoes and gear
•Stay hydrated
•Practice good hygiene
•Listen to your body

🏃‍♂️ Remember: Fitness is a lifelong journey. Focus on your own goals, pace yourself and enjoy steady progress this season.

When is a bra more than just an undergarment? When it helps raise $7,200 for breast cancer awareness. 💗

The Camden Charlton Association of REALTORS® (CCAOR) turned creativity into compassion during their inaugural Bras for the Cause event, benefiting the Southeast Georgia Health System Foundation. With themed designs, music and plenty of community spirit, the night celebrated survivors, honored those affected by breast cancer and made a meaningful impact close to home.

We’re grateful for partners like CCAOR who help spread awareness, support vital programs and uplift our community—one bra at a time. Read more today: https://www.sghs.org/breasthealth-foundation 🎗️
